I'm SCARED to DEATH!
      #201827 - 07/28/06 06:58 PM

I was out with couple of friends tonight.
We were having a chat..and suddenly a spit from mouth a "high-risk" friend came into my mouth.

There was an open injury (bleeding) in my mouth so when his spit came into my mouth, I'm scared it may have transmitted HIV.

honestly the chances of that transmitting HIV is almost zero. The reported cases of HIV from even deep kissing is minute.

It's completely normal to be nervous hon. But I personally don't think you have anything to be worried about. There are people that have had unprotected sex with loved ones that were HIV + on several occasions and never contracted the virus. I would say you are more likely to win the lottery than to contract HIV in the way that you mentioned. But nonetheless, if you are worried I would go in at 6 weeks after exposure and get tested. If the results are negative, then you my friend have nothing to worry about (provided there isn't another exposure).

Actually the reported cases from kissing is less than minute. There was ONE read ONE case reported to the CDC. Investigation discovered that transmission was due to causes other than kissing.

Oscar. There are NO high risk people, only high risk behavior. Accidental spit in your mouth, cut, whatever, isn't considered low risk, much less high risk. Please take the time to learn about HIV transmission risk, so you don't have to freak out over non-risks.

So to sum it all up..with an open cut in my mouth and spit coming from a HIV carrier person hitting that exact spot..there is no risk at all..

Can I chill now?
