wbc from D.J.
      #201556 - 07/26/06 10:11 PM

If you would have read my post and my reply you would have read where I said "Both seem to be correct. Could be high or low. I also stated I have seen it myself. Now this is just a snipet from Dr. Gallant one of the leading HIV Dr. in the world. Please get of my ass for I am sick of lonley old maids attacking a person personally.
I donat my time here and I'm sure some appreciate some of my insites. You however, have still need mental health.

WBC and acute HIV
By Joel E. Gallant, M.D., M.P.H. (11-Oct-2001)

on recent answers you once said you can not rely on cbc and on another that wbc is high in acute hiv whats true ??

Both. There's a big difference between saying that a white blood cell count might be high during acute HIV infection and saying that you can rule out HIV infection if it isn't.

Dont know what all the fighting is about but after looking thru the posts I'm not feeling to well knowing that my doctor told me that my white blood count is high and with HIV it's most of the time low. This just shows me even more that my body is fighting some kind of a infection, my white blood cells would not be high for nothing. Hang in there DJ, I have had my share of beatings.

Exposed- March 28, 2005
test neg to this day but suffer from major symptoms

Oh dear Pinkster, You are in such a mess. Really now, unless you are just having a time with everyone you need to take a break. I have told you you do not have HIV infection. nothing in these posts are any concern of yours. Move on to another cause you will have a better life. HIV is not your problem D.J.

Just makes me wonder why my white blood cells are raised for no known reason. I took a look at my cbc blood work up for the past year and everytime they have ran it each time my white blood cells are higher. I wich my first doctor would have ran one on me when I was 4 weeks past exposure to see what it looked like soon after but we didn't do one till Oct 05 and that would make the first one 7 months later, oh well will see what the hell they say on the 17th.

I started the wbc count thread not to be a pain but because I was really curious. I had elevated wbc count when I first went to my doctor after my possible exposure. I was diagnosed with EBV infection and he said that EBV will almost always raise wbc but I was curious what HIV did as well....

It was a good post and generated some debate. As you can see WBC are elevated during viral infections as well as bacterial infections. HIV does attack certain WBC and many times they are low, however during the very first point of infection [ before anti-bodies are produced ] they are SOMETIMES elevated. D.J.

I had a WBC done 6 weeks and 12 weeks after my encounter with a "Pro" (Unprotected Insertive Oral Sex). The first test showed a count of 6.2 and the last was 9.6 with 10.0 being the test limit. So I have showed an increase as well. But the same as Pinkster I have tested Neg. by every test possible out to 9 months including testing the only source 6 months after my "Low Risk" exposure which was also Neg! I wonder if people with HIV can carry certain infections that are transmitted by contact with any type of bodily fluid. I have read alot about Systemic Candida, and the symptoms they produce are every symptom I have experienced. As we all know Candida can be related to HIV. It is a type of fungal infection or a toxin that makes you sick. Apparently it is still a very debated issue as to whether immune deficiency is required for this infection. There is alot of info. out there that states that it can absolutely occur in healthy people. One case was a man who aquired it sexually 20 years ago, and he and his wife have been passing it back and forth to each other for 14 years. HIV Neg. The fact that I had Oral sex performed on me means that because of the amount of Candida found in the mouth is very high, that perhaps I had her fungal infection transmitted to me. Who knows. All I know is that there are so many people with persitent symptoms shortly after an exposure, myself included and not one has tested Pos. yet! Good News or Bad News! Just not sure.
Hey Pinkster, I have been following your posts for months and I am pulling for you. Please keep us updated and I will do the same. I am due to meet with another specialist within a month.

Ghezzz you folks need to relax. Don't you understand that you can take a CBC two hours after the first and your counts will be different. Your WBC are normal. The only thing that is abnormal is your fear of HIV infection based on your risks. D.J.

GMan: I have had strong symptoms after a potentially very risky encounter almost 6 months ago. My swollen glands continue to this day yet I have tested negative with PCRs, Elisas, Western Blots and OraQuicks.... The saga continues....

Well I gotta tell ya, that after all the Neg. DNA and RNA PCR and Elisa out to 9 months and a 6 month Neg. test from the source, I figure one of those would have had to have been Pos. by now if it was HIV. All these newly Pos. folks seem to have both detectable antibodies and viral load with no symptoms in MOST cases except for a few weeks of a flu like illness that they fully recovered from, but here I am and many others included have every symptom imaginable with no detectable antibodies or viral load. It just makes no sense!
It is really starting to make me wonder that it just may not be HIV at all! Just look at all the people who have been Pos. for so many years with no symptoms and some how within weeks of an exposure I have symptoms that don't quit? Pinkster is a great example because she has had a CD4 count of 1180 which is a very very far cry from a 200-300 count which is when most clinical symptoms of HIV begin to show, yet her symptoms have not quit either! Something is NOT adding up! I also have not read a post from ANYONE who has had the symptoms we all describe and the persistance of them saying they ended up testing Pos.
One thing is for certain, one day we WILL know what is wrong!

I'm thinking it might be one of the herpes viruses that they don't test for going haywire in my system. For example EBV is a herpes family virus. Some of these viruses are tough buggers. I just hope I feel better sometime as I am getting really tired of the unending swollen glands and fatigue. Best of luck to you.
