im weak....i have a 7 weeks negative result but somehow i still cannot comfort myself that theres a possibility that i do not have hiv. not only are my symptoms too real (i have many of them), but my wife also has them....these are too real to be true. now i have all kinds of thoughts....maybe i have hep and hiv co-infection (which delayed antibodies detection), maybe also other stds. i have some back aches and adbominal aches (not diarrhoea) which may or may not be there before, but just playing on my mind. i just cannot live with the fact that i place everything i have and the happiness of those around me in jeopardy. how selfish and foolish can one get? have anyone heard of people who is negative at 6-8 weeks, then positive after that? how common are such cases? thanks......im very tired of all these......

Guilt's a pisser isn't it? Wait till you see how it's gonna ruin your life if you don't get it under control.
Most people that are HIV+ will test positive by 6 weeks. If you can't take comfort in a 7 week negative that's your own mind game. I don't know your risk, but I've learned that those that freak out the most and swear the 'symptoms' are getting them and their unsuspecting spouse are the least at risk in the first place. You played the game. If you are going to do that, then take the consequences. Get yourself under control, you're embarassing yourself.

Most people will test positive to HIV within 8 weeks after exposure, though the experts continue to say 13 weeks. It's true that immune suppressing conditions or agents, like hepatitis C or drug use can delay the response of an HIV test. Hepatitis C, however, is not commonly transmitted via vaginal sex.
If you have access to insurance, you can go to a doctor with your concerns and ask for him to conduct a viral load and hepatitis panel and possibly test for other STDs like syphillis. A viral load test will actually look for HIV dna in the blood and count it if it's present. Almost everyone with HIV who is not on medication will have a viral load. A hepatitis panel tests for all strands of hepatitis A-E.
You should not, however, try to diagnose yourself. HIV cannot be diagnosed by symptoms alone. Back aches and abdominal pain are not indicators of HIV. If you have serious concerns you should explain your situation to a doctor and get the recommended tests. If you have put yourself at risk for an STD, it would definitely be a good idea to get tested.

This is to all who think they have HIV to. 8 Weeks after I had sex with a woman, and the condom broke. I came down with cold/flu symptoms. Got a HIV test (negitive). 3 days after I got better started with swollen lymph nodes in my underarms. They kept comming up and down for 8 months. I was tired all the time. And had tons of symptioms. The worst was 6 months of canker sores 2 a week!!! I had hiv 1 and viral load tests out to 21 weeks. Only because I felt like garbage. The worst was I got married in late 05 and my wife and I never had sex till we got married. 4 Weeks after the honeymoon, she got bad flu. Boy was I in a stress frenzy. She started the same symptoms. So my new doc in 06 I tell her all this. She give me a EBV test. Found out I had a chronic EBV infection and gave it to my wife. I had high EBV numbers and she had even higher. Turns out you can transmit it sometime up to 1 1/2 years later. You have to trust you HIV results. It really messed me up. I can only thank god for putting me through all this so that I never do it again, and even better help share my story. many viruses have the same symptoms as HIV. And even more common is EBV. I would suggest getting that test also just to be safe.

"IM WEAK" hmm then I am too Regret. Read my posting just about EXACTLY the same distance after my test and you will see I felt the same way. You can take comfort that Mass. puts out a number of 99.2% of people test positive by week 6 never mind week 7. Compromised immune system is not as common as some would suggest. The chances of catching HIV and hep from a one time encounter is astromonical. It sounds like you are still having huge regret and sorrow for your actions and I too feel the same way but to put that to HIV is not really realisitic. YOu dont have HIV but feel so bad for what you have done that you are wearing your body down and getting yourself sick. Here are the symptoms that I had when I was going through major stress about the situation.....diaherria, stomach pains, head aches, back ache, tingling in my hands and feet and a feeling of disconnection to everyone....what it was....stress and anxiety and I have moved past some of it and feel better everyday.(have my moments) Take it easy as your 7 week is more than just encouraging and we will get through this.... drop me a line when you want. You and your wife probably just have a viral infection that may or may not be connected to your mistake.....but the chances of HIV slim to nil. RELAX and dont surf the internet "7 weeks negative and tessted positive:" because you are bound to find the one out of a 1000 that did. Good luck and be well.

You are obviously struggling with guilt over whatever you did that you believe exposed you to HIV. Get some counseling.

Hey There, 6 weeks is really a magic number when it comes to testing with a Elisa Blood test. 12 weeks is The End to any doubts. Some people are still saying you should test at 6 months but that is not true. I think the chance of you having HIV now that you have tested negative at 7 weeks is very very low. This is just my opinion from information I have read on the internet.
-------------------- A 12/13 Week Elisa Test is Beyond a Reasonable Doubt.

Hi Regret1, i try to take comfort from my 7 weeks test, but it pains me to see my wife having all these problems. its better for her now. they may or may not be linked to hiv, but there must be something i passed on to her. i am trying hard to be strong. but like you mentioned, the moments are always there when i just can;t help it. maybe i just need some encouraging words, and im really thankful for you and the others who has posted. God bless all of us.
