Difference in PCR Results?
      #20114 - 07/31/01 10:37 PM

Well, I tested today (PCR). EXACTLY 28 days (adjusted appropriately for the midnight time cross during the 'event') from my exposure. God forgive me for this ignorance, but I wanted to cry my eyes out and scream 'I don't belong here!'. I wanted every stereotype to be true for just a minute so it could not possibly apply to my yuppie, rich, hetero ass! But then I found it hard to argue with the stereotype of slut so I got over it and just figured I would make a neat Latina statistic. OK, done venting.

But I do have a question. I'm a little confused about the way PCR results are presented. Positive equals negative, negative equals positive what? A little light so when I hear the word positive I don't loose control of bodily functions?

I have just one request: please spare me the responses of 'Please tell me your story so I can feel better about myself because you are clearly worse off'. It doesn't matter, I'm here with damned good reason to be scared.

Hi SAC,
How do you feel this time? I know what you are feeling at the moment, stay strong and stick with this board to get throuhg this period of time. I've been there, done the PCR DNA test at 30 days with ELISA and they came back Neg. Tell us about your risk exposure and what PCR you did, there are 2 different PCR test for HIV. Well, HIV is not the end, live your life the way you used to live and let us know what the result is.
For the moment, get on with your life and relax as much as you can. I beleive that all the folks on this board will looking forward to hearing all the best from you SAC.
Best luck
VENT

The PCR DNA is a qualitative test ..... bascially a yes or no answer is what you will get. Either it will find virus, or it won't. Best of luck.

PCR DNA is indeed qualitative - Yes or No. Either your doctor or the company you set the test up through will interpret the results for you. What you'll be looking for will be "the test says you're fine, and do not have HIV." Don't worry about the technicalities.
