Elisa antibody testing
      #200685 - 07/19/06 10:17 PM

Doctors claim that the Elisa antibody test is 99.9% accurate unless you are in a high risk group and your symptoms are clinicly suggestive of hiv infection.

In other words, the test is not accurate at all. Risk groups and symptoms should have nothing to do with the accuracy of a test. It either picks up anitbodys to the virus or it doesnt.

Looking for a reason not to believe your negative result?

'Doctors claim" Which ones? How many? From what peer review studies? How old are these studies and recommendations, from the 80"s?

99.9% accurate at what point in time? A week, a month, 3 monhts, what is the explanation for the exceptions. What is the window for the exceptions? Oh right, you never specified a window in the first place.

Information from this century says that these tests are accurate with a percentage of 99.9 by 6 weeks for everyone except IV drug users, organ transplant patients on immune suppression drugs or cancer patient on chemo.

Finally, what is your agenda or posting such a vague, inaccurate post?

Answer the above questions and maybe someone will take you seriously. Until then. ROFL

Come on, read the "Ask the Experts" part of this website everyday. If you are one of the "I had a stripper sit on my lap, do I have Aids?" people well 3 months is golden. If you had a seriously risky possible exposure, 6 months, no maybe more like 12 months. This is the advice dispensed on this very website daily especially by some of the experts. There is one Canadian doctor who is consistent with the 3 month advice though.

The virus doesn't care what group you belong to when it infects you and your body could careless what group you are in when it decieds to produce anti-bodies [asuming a health person to begin with]. Most Doc. parrot the CDC ,it all about law suits. Bottom line, 6 weeks is plenty of time for most to obtain an accurate result. D.J.

I suppose it's all a matter of how much you want to live the drama of maybe being infected. It certainly seems exciting to some folks. Seems some people have nothing better to do with their lives than to draw out the whole thing, just so they have something in their lives that seems oh so important to worry about. Twisted, isn't it.

So if that's the case for you, then just keep testing. I hear you should test out to 10 years to be completely sure. That should give you plenty of time to die from all that stress. Just do the rest of us that have real lives to lead a favor.

Suffer in silence. We really don't have time for your paranoia.

Paranoia.....self destroy ya.

I agree if the person had no risky potential exposure and had no symptoms. If risky and symptoms then I can understand 100%.
