Symptoms 4-5 Months later
      #198565 - 07/02/06 08:52 AM

Hi guys you guys have been a great help with my stressing reading all of your posts.
My question is that what are the chances of starting Hiv symptoms(not ars) 4-5 months after one single exposure(only chance of exposurein my life)?
Most places I have read said that many people never have symptoms for ten years but some do in months how true is this?
I ask this questions because going on two weeks now I have been ill.
*Swollen Lymph nodes
*On and off mild fever
*Initially started with a cold and sneezing
*Now have generalized stomach pain
*Sore throat in the mornings
* bad fatigue
*Jock itch type rash

I will be getting tested soon, just wanted to get some information about the likelyhood of hiv progressing to symptoms so quickly.
And if that is the case and I tested pos, would medication need to commence immediatly or let the body fight it off?

Just go get your test and be done with it.

I second that motion!
I have been in your shoes, my dear. But, it sounds to me like you are overstessing. Get a test and then move on with your life. Your symptoms would not be prolonged for this long anyways....
Hang in there,
SF

Your symptoms could be anything, including mono. You should go see a doctor. Don't assume that it's HIV-related.

What was the nature of your possible exposure? Evaluating your risk could give us a better idea of whether you really need a test or not.

You seem to be confusing ARS with the symptoms of AIDS. Ars is the body's reaction to the presence of HIV soon after the virus enters the body.

People can have HIV for 10 years and then develop symptoms of AIDS because the immune system has been damaged to the point that it can no longer fight off other infections.

In your case if you're worried, you should get tested.

I have to agree with SA. I do not ever remember having ARS, never sick , no problems in my life. Only last year I had found out my status because I was diagnosed with PCP caused by AIDS. There is a difference between ARS symptoms and having AIDS defyining illnesses. If you had any exposure, just test.
