Does anyone know how effective the FDA-Approved home access HIV test kits are? I am at 6-weeks since possible exposure and would like to know my current status. Do the labs use the 1st generation or 3rd generation ELISA when they test the blood? How accurate would the result be? How long till I would get the results? Any information from the well would be greatly appreciated.

3rd generation, just as effective as any doctors office or lab, 3 or 7 days depending on the type kit you bought. Results after 8 PM in the evening.

Not to sound harsh, but Anonymous' previous post is incorrect. Home Access uses 1st generation ELISA for their tests (bear in mind, however, that the difference between 1st and 3rd generation tests is negligible - the only difference is in specificity, i.e. confirmed negative results, meaning a 3rd generation will pick up antibodies about two weeks before they will show up on a 1st generation). If your Home Access test shows positive, they use IFA for confirmation.
Depending on which kit you buy, your results will be available within 3 business days or 7 business days. You can call 24 hours a day to see if your results are available, and you can also speak to a counselor.
In clinical trials, Home Access tests showed a 99.9% correlation with tests performed at a clinic. It is safe, effective, and extremely reliable. It is also the only home test that is FDA approved.

Copper speaks the truth. I'm under the impression that the difference in sensitivity amounts to only about 5 days, but I can't remember where I read it. Express Test cost me $50 at Walgreens, it was ready 4 days after I dropped the sample in the FedEx box (the count starts the day AFTER you ship it, or so I was told.)

You are wrong. Home Access is FIRST GENERATION. NOT as sensitive as 3rd gen. I called the medical director at Home Access. he verified. sorry but people don't know their ass from their elbows on this site. plus there are people hanging out at this site who are drumming up business for the PCR tests at Quest Diagnostics (needlessly wasting your money).

so when do you think home access will be running out of tests that are using a generation that had stopped being made years ago? seems to me that sooner or later they would have to run out of them if they haven't already
