Persistent Symptoms
      #194457 - 06/04/06 12:44 PM

Hello. I have posted before and would like to ask again about symptoms. I have had for over 1 month now swollen glands on and off, fever daily, headache daily, fatigue, on going sinus infection. I have been to the doctors and have gone through the regimen of antibiotics twice. My question is that I had gotten masterbated in Vegas and at the end the women spit on the tip and massaged it into my skin and then I finished. Everyone stated that this is not a cause for alarm. I cannot get rid of these symptoms. I have tested after 2 weeks negative and then after 25 days and will test again at 3 months. My doctors want me to go to an infectious disease doctor. Any ideas if this is seroconversion since it has not gone away and started a week after exposure. I know that the test is the conclusive measuring device but has anyone else experienced this who is negative or even positive during conversion Thank you.

You could not have been exposed to HIV from what you describe. HIV is transmitted by unprotected sexual intercourse (vaginal or anal) or sharing needles with an infected person. Go to the ID doctor and get him to run a complete STD panel, gonorrhea, chlamydia, sypilis, herpes, Hepatitis B. If HIV were transmitted by getting oral, half the world would have it. There reallly is no need whatsoever to continue thinking that your symptoms are in any way HIV related.

Thank you. I already have herpes and have also had a spot on the roof of my mouth for 3 weeks that is not going away. I know what people have been saying but I have never been this sick before in my life and these symptoms just will not go away. It is fear a bit but mostly just being realistic and not understanding what is going on with my body. The fever is low grade and keeps coming and going but is everyday along with the headache. My heart is constantly pounding fighting something. Thank you.

I'm not an expert, but have read just about everything on TheBody's website. I, too am suffering from all kinds of symptoms, even after two negative test results after 10 months. Crazy, huh? I also have herpes and need to remind myself that there are symptoms and side effects that go along with herpes, a lot of them are similar to HIV symptoms, and some are side effects of Valtrex, do you take anything for it? I just wanted to let you know that a lot of your symptoms can actually be caused just by the worry and stress you are putting on yourself. The body weakens through stress and anxiety and is more vulnerable to catching things, sore throats alone can be caused from exhaustion and stress, heartburn, cough from a condition called GERD, that can also be triggered by stress. I know, I've done this to myself, TWICE now. Guilt plays a big role. I think once we start obsessing over the possibility of having HIV, we notice MANY more things going on in our bodies than we ever did, so when you say you were never sick, you probably just weren't as aware before. As for your mouth, were you always looking in your mouth before this? Probably not, and you probably had those sores many times before. Low-grade fever? Mine is usually around 99.3, and that is in the normal range for me, never knew it, but that's what it says on the thermometer info sheet, just never took it that much. I know how you are feeling, try to not think about it and realize you are ok. It doesn't sound necessary, but go get tested for peace of mind, your life will suddenly be back to normal, and this will all be in the past, with a few lessons learned. Good luck.

Your doctor really thinks you should see an ID doctor? Seriously ??!!!???

Get a new doctor. One that actually understands that what happened in Vegas stayed there and you were never at any risk.

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I have had herpes for a number of years and just have never been this sick before. It is not guilt but just plain not knowing what is going on. It seems that with whatever virus is in my system that it keeps mutating from one area to another. The spot just appeared and I only noticed it because the doctor asked me about it. The other symptoms of daily headaches, joint pain now developed after 5 weeks exposure, low grade fever daily , fatigue and my heart pounding which the doc says is my body fighting something. My main concern is that with having herpes does this put us at a higher risk for transmission? Everyone says no. Well Thank you and Good Luck with everything.

From EVERYTHING that I've read, you were not at risk. As far as having herpes, yes, they do say that IF you are having an outbreak, it is easier to contract HIV IF you are with someone with HIV, I think due to the fact that the skin is vulnerable since it is like an open sore. It's easier for blood an fluids to enter the body. I STRONGLY believe you have absolutely nothing to worry about, but I know how freaky and scary it is. You really could be bringing on a lot of the symptoms you possess right now. Did you know that lymph nodes actually can change size throughout the day and that it's normal? I found that out, and I have a lymph node in my neck that just pokes out a little more on one side, it is normal. If they are truly swollen from infection, they will hurt to the touch, and just a light touch. Where is your joint pain? I experienced the weirdest numbness and tingling in my calves and forearms when I was at my lowest, got cold chills, sore throat, everything, then soon after, my calves were tightening up on me. And something that I've learned, the ARS period usually only lasts for about a week then goes away. It takes many years before all of the other symptoms will occur. SO, you are probably like me, paying way too much attention to every little thing that goes on in your body. What's your temp?

Hello and Thank you. My temp is low grade around 98 and keeps jumping on and off all day. The joint pain has just started in my knees and really hurts. The spot is still there in my mouth and it is very scary because my 30 day was negative but now that the symptoms are starting to subside I will not be sure until my 3 month test. Let me know what you think. My initial contact was April 28, 2006.Thank you.
