Im about 2 1/2 weeks past "exposure". I haven't really had any symptoms that I am aware of....other than a somewhat sore throat, and some sinus drainage in my throat. I went to the dr. today and he's pretty convinced I have alleriges, along with a little bit of a sinus infection.
I know, and have read even, that HIV+ people have more trouble with these kind of things, than sometimes the general population does. But if those things WERE to be caused by HIV, it would be later into HIV infection right? Not 2-3 weeks after exposure????? I thought those kind of "things" start happening when your immune system gets really knocked down...
so basicly Im asking, this isn't ARS symptoms is it??
I've had no fevers, no diahrea, no nausea, vomiting,...no anything really. Other than this sinus junk!!!
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Anonymomus,
I am NOT an expert on this, but going by my own experience, I did have a bad sinus and cough with phlem after 2 weeks of exposure and three months after that I am negative from that exposure. ARS symptoms are very similar to a bad flu and it is the first onset of infection, this includes fever, rash, englarged lymphnodes, night sweats, vomiting, extreme fatigue. These occurred between 2 and 4 weeks after infection and usually are a combination of the above and last more than a week, another thing is lots of people who are infected with HIV did not experienced ARS symptoms. Now one thing about Symptons and HIV infection is that SYMPTOMS DO NOT EQUAL THE DISEASE so please do not auto diagnosed yourself, moreover sinus and sore throat are NOT signs of first onset of HIV infection. If you are concerned about being exposed please test at 3 moths after exposure and use condoms. NELSON_44

Respiratory problems like runny nose, sneezing etc. are NOT typical ARS symptoms.

the immune system becomes weak at first post-exposure because the body is figuring out how to fight the intruder, then it usually rebounds significantly.
Many people don't know that they have hiv until they get a random hiv test or they get very sick several years after exposure and they get an opportunistic infection or something that just doesn't go away quickly the way it should.
what you have could be hiv related or may very well be allergies. you can't go by those symptoms to know if you have hiv. get a test at 8 or 12 weeks to know if it's hiv.
