What is the story behind a burning tongue--is it a pretty sure sign of HIV??????

I don't think so. But the funny thing is that if you go out on the internet and look up any disease and then HIV, it will come back with information that such and such a disease happens in people with HIV. The fact is that many many diseases can happen in people with HIV who have low T cell counts. I don't think it's HIV, you probably were eating someting spicy or hot that irritated your tongue a little. I wouldn't worry about it being HIV.
