      #190987 - 05/12/06 08:54 AM

It is me again...

From your experience being in this forum and otherwise how
many people have infected with the HIV virus from one single
exposure due to a condom failure? and if how long the ARS
symptoms supposed to last?

#190990 - 05/12/06 09:11 AM varies, conditions have to be right in the human host when/if its actually exposed to the virus, Unfortunately no one can say when that will happen. Theres some that do get infected by a single exposure, and then theres some that can be repeatedly exposed and not get infected.

My wife for example....I was diagnosed in the late stages of aids, docs estimate that i had the virus 10+ yrs prior to diagnosis, My wife and i had unprotected sex always, she even gave birth to our youngest daughter, during my most infectous times.....neither the wife or the child are infected. This doesnt mean they are immune to getting infected, simply means the conditions werent right at the time*....

I suggest you wait out, and test at atleast the 12-13 week mark. Until then, get off the internet, find you something that will keep your mind busy WITHOUT feeding your hiv fears. Most hiv clinics have counselors you can call and talk to about your fears, if they continue.

That's an impossible question to answer. A lot of people who are infected have no idea when it happened or how. I've never seen anyone on this forum attribute their infection to a single episode of condom failure, but it could happen. ARS symptoms, if they occur at all, would be the same for them as for everyone else.

I can only tell you my experience, which was that I got ARS about 2 1/2 weeks after exposure (no condom failure involved - unprotected sex). My symptoms were sudden onset of fever (101-102 degrees), EXTREME fatigue, vomiting, rash on my chest, anorexia, labwork showed very low white blood count, elevated liver enzymes. Symptoms lasted a good 10 days or so. Initial HIV test at 4 weeks post exposure was ELISA positive, Western Blot indeterminate. Repeat test at about 6 weeks post exposure was positive for HIV-1. My viral load at 3 months post exposure was 43,600, and CD4 of 569. No meds for now.

Good luck - if you aren't sure, GET TESTED!!!
