How long after seroconversion do you test pos.??
      #190231 - 05/08/06 02:29 PM

Say at 2-3 weeks, you have ARS symptoms.....the person is basicly seroconverting.

How long after that would they test pos. on a rapid test???

I'd say within 10-15 days on a normal Elisa test. Some resouces say 12/13 weeks, others say 6 months, some say 6 weeks, some say a year. It really tells us that no one has a clue when it comes to hiv.

Don't listen to the idiot who says no one knows with HIV.

Usually after a person has ARS symptoms they will show antibodies within a couple of weeks.

Actually, the presence of ARS symptoms has no bearing on when antibodies show up. The answer is the same whether you have ARS or not: seroconversion comes within 13 weeks of infection, at the latest. (Average 20 days after infection, and in many people within six weeks.)

Unfortunately there really is no way to know for sure. Apparently with the modern HIV tests, most people will show up positive within 2 to 8 weeks if they're infected (the average being 25 days according to CDC). There are a few who may take up to 13 weeks and a small minority may take up to six months or more, but this is pretty rare.

I dont think the person who says knowone has a clue whe it comes to HIV is an idiot. From my experiences so far in the clinic and on this forum and elsewhere its hard to get consistent answers to questions of concern.

is because especially when it comes to HIV, NO ONE has ALL the answers, simply because its a learning disease for both the patient and the doctors, They have made great progress in recent years,YES. But....still a long way to go in all areas.
However, if you are testing many times, and they are yielding negative results, if you've stopped having sex, if the Fear/worry dominates you, You need to stop using hiv & fear as an excuse for denying oneself of proper healthcare & treatment*

Advancements have been made, and one of the areas has been in Testing, i assure you MOST, meaning the vast majority, if ya need a number, in the high 90's percentile, will show conclusive results at 12-13 weeks. Any others, including the "rare" ones will show by 6 months, no if, ands, or buts about it. That being said, if you are testing negative to that point after a single exposure, you have exhausted the HIV excuse under ANY circumstances. And if you have exhausted the excuse, I suggest you start addressing the real issues you personally face.......Good Luck & God Bless*

Seroconversion is just that; you are converting from NEG to POZ. As far as no one knows , what's that all about? ANTIBODY test have been used for years to detect all kinds of viral infections. It is nothing new. It is a tried and true method of detecting antibodies. The only question is how long an individual takes to produce them . In as much as we are all so different we produce them at different rates. If you are basicly heathy, you will produce them 6/8 weels for sure after infection. D.J.

Say that to me! I'm 18 months from exposure now, and my symptoms started a month and a half ago. Tested negative days ago. Living in a Limbo. There are many cases of people taking longer than six months and even a year, to seroconvert. I posted some of them before.

I have tested Neg. out to 7 months through all types of
testing. Many DNA-PCR, Oraquiks, Elisas for HIV 1 and 2, HTLV 1 and full STD screening. I have also tested my only source of possible infection at 6 months after our only contact together, also Neg. by Elisa. My wife also started to experience the type of symptoms I had 6 weeks after my own started. She tested 4 months after her symptoms started by Oraquik also Neg. .I have also read about many, many others who also test out to as long as 2-3 years. The reason for this is symptoms. Period! Not only are they symptoms but the vast majority of us still testing Neg. had or are still experiencing the
same type of symptoms as each other following some type of exposure we are concerned about. What are the chances that all these people including myself could have the same type of symptoms combined with an exposure no matter how safe or unsafe it was and there not be something going on. NO I am not saying that HIV is the cause, but the very obvious evidence is indeed suspicious to SOMETHING! It does not help that alot of these symptoms, some of which I am still experiencing since 6.5 months ago have some clinical value to HIV.
Some experts say that the HTLV Virus or ("HIV 3") or the ("cousin to HIV") as my ID Dr. calls it can be undetected for many years. Dr. Swadasky and/or Dr. Holinday from The Body also touched on this same
info. as being true. Well if this is true what does that really say about this seroconversion thing as it relates to HIV.
I agree that if I have never experienced such long lasting and suspicious symptoms especially shortly after an exposure
that a 13 week test would be all I need. However if symptoms persist continue testing. Obviously there are many others just like me who feel the same way, otherwise they would not continue to visit this sight.
At this point I have started to have other evaluations and testing done to find out what would cause all this mess, but I am still not at 100% regarding HIV. Unfortunately.

Gman,

Since you quoted Sadowsky that HTLV can go undetected for years, you should focus on that as the potential source of your problems.
