Is there any skill involved in performing a HIV Elisa test? Does anyone know how long it actually takes to perform the test itself? Is the blood just fed into a machine which gives a reading of positive or negative or is there some interpretation involved in the results?

There is skill gettig up in the morning. What are you looking for an excuse to not trust a result? Get a oraquick test 20 min. Nothing could be simpler

As far as the one I have taken that you give an answer in 20 min, no. I'm sure they are trained very well in how to read them and when but not to much skill is needed for the quick tests.

No they don't just feed it through the machine and give you the results.
Trained and license technicians complete the test and it can take up to a couple hours to perform. If you had your test completed at a physicians office or a clinic then they are reliable.
The thing about HIV testing is that it's not like being an auto mechanic. You do not get differing opinions from one tecnician to the next.
