I read in the spanish forum about a questions posed to "Dr. Santana" in the ask the experts section (http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/SpanishTreatment/Archive/LaPrueba/Q172788.html). Here the good doctor advises that if co infected with hepatitis, he recommends TESTING BOTH AT 6 AND 12 MONTHS????? Any comments and or ideas on this???

DISAGREE!!!!!! He is being very cautios... NO WAY. In fact, many experts today are defending that coinfection has no impact in the window period. I think the Dr.Santana answer is to a very old question. NO WAY 12 motnhs!!! , no even CDC recomends that

That was old information he was quoting, he needs to get more up to date. Even with co-infection the time line is 13 weeks to show antibodies for HIV. HIV is an active virus and even with co infection it takes over and becomes the dominant virus which with the tests we have now will be detectable before 13 weeks. The six or twelve month stuff is utter crap.

when I called cdc and told them I was exposed to both they said that is why they tell people 6 month is conclusive for hiv. and they also tell you unless other factors are involved thats why they always tell you because other factors can change window period and to follow the doctors orders
