For those worrying about their tongue being white

Thrush is not really a "white coat on tongue," as you describe it. It is an infection of the underlying tissue. Normal, healthy people often have a white coating on their tongue and it's not a sign of anything.
If you look at those photos you'll see that the thrush in this case is actually located on the throat lining, not the tongue. (And the second photo is of Oral Hairy Leukoplakia, which is a totally different HIV-related disorder.)
The difference between a harmless white tongue and thrush is that thrush is more like a sore or series of sores -- when the white part is scraped off the tissue beneath may bleed, for example. With a white tongue, it's just normal bacteria in your mouth. (Smokers are particularly prone to having a white tongue.)
So here's my point: Don't freak out merely because your tongue is white.
