      #188211 - 04/27/06 10:03 AM

I USED TO THINK THIS WAS A GREAT WEB SIGHT BUT ALL
I FIND IS PEOPLE THAT DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLES
FEELINGS. MY HIV DOCTOR SAID I HAVE TO TEST UP TO 12 MONTH BECAUSE OF MY EXPOSURE. PLEASE GIVE PEOPLE A BREAK! IM SURE NOBODY WANTS TO STIR UP FEAR. I THINK PEOPLE HAVE BETTER THING TO DO.

12 months? Barring an occupational exposure i would say the standard 3 month/6 month test window should suffice

While I completely agree that some of the nastiness here is unwarranted, you would be surprised that there are people that would just stir up anxiety and fear for fun. I'm not saying that the people accused of that here recently are doing that, but don't put it past some people. Takes all kinds to make this world go around.

The problem that I have with you Pinky, is that you pop up on nearly every discussion where a person tests negative at 13 weeks and then chime in with your famous "The window is 6 months" rant.

Look, I know that you need to discredit the fact that the majority of credible sources consider the window period to be 13 weeks. You need to do this because a short window period guideline makes your claims that you have HIV after testing negative after thirteen MONTHS sound ridiculous. Sorry.

By doing this, you make people worry, cause them great stress and anxiety. You also may be doing great bodily harm to these people by preventing them from focusing on what might be their real illness. My aunt thought she had HIV because she had a list of horrible symptoms. She focused on HIV and HIV alone for two years. It turns out that she had ovarian cancer that spread throughout her body. By the time she focused on the real issue it was too late. She died last June.

Had she looked at other issues instead of focusing on her "flu like feeling" she might have caught her cancer sooner.

Pinky, there are other illnesses besides HIV. If a person is still experiencing symptoms after testing after the window period, they should really take their time and energy and focus on other serious illnesses, before it is too late.

You promote fear. You promote ignorance. And Pinky, this fear and ignorance may ultimately prevent a person from seeking the REAL medical attention that they need

If you aren't pinky, be aware that some docs are not up to date with newer testing guidelines.

Not one person in the UK seroconverted after 13 weeks in over 10 years.

The only people who fall into the late seroconverion category are:

1) IV drug users

2) Chemotherapy patients

3) Organ donor recipients

4) People with long term immunological disease (you would know beforehand if you had one of these diseases).

I am sorry that your doc is so misinformed.

In another thread Pinky stated:

"I know who you are and so do the people who really know my whole story and you make it so obvious who you are on this board. What I did to my husband was bad but what you did was just as bad, so while your smacking me in my face smack yourself as well."

Pinky, I am not your ex-boyfriend. I am a person who lost her aunt because she was so preoccupied with HIV that she ignored the possibility that her illness was something else. I her case, it was ovarian cancer. She had a horrible list of symptoms, but kept on insisiting it was HIV because she felt guilty about a sexual indiscretion. Had she focused on the possibility of other illnesses, she might have lived.

As far as race goes, I am a woman of color, and find statements such as "kiss my white ass" offensive. Sorry, but I found it offensive.

Second point, my best friend has HIV. It was and is in no way a punishment for anything he did. It is a virus. People who do not have HIV but insisit they do really upset me. There are so many people who really live with this virus, so HIV negative people who seem to be chasing this virus by insisting they have it when they clearly do not offend those who really do.

I have recently lost someone close to me to cancer. I have a close friend with HIV. I know the reality of these illnesses. If you are really experiencing strange symptoms, then please, really look beyond HIV for answers. You may be missing the real cause of your illness, and by doing so, putting your health in danger.
