Genital warts
      #188027 - 04/26/06 11:51 AM

Okay well me and my boyfriend both know we have genital warts, and we are going to the clinic friday to get tested for other things and to get treated.

But for the most part i am nervous on how they will treat mine, because they are inside of me.. what do they do to women to cure genital warts?

they sometimes use acid to burn them off or freeze them
and sometimes they use a laser if they are severe

you might want to call the office. i know if the are really bad they do it in the hospital. they might just use a speculum
and a cotton tip applicator and touch them with the acid
the best thing to do is call that office back

They do something called cryotherapy. They will do a colposcopy with a biopsy first. This is where the doctor will look at your cervix with a colposcope(kind of like binoculars) . Then the doc will apply a dye and biopsy. If there are indeed lesions then you will get the cryotherapy. This is a freezing, similar to getting a wart frozen on your finger. If the cells are a bit worse they will do something called a conization. This is where they cut out a cone shape of the cervix. Done in a hospital. Expect...menstral like cramps, slight bleeding and a watery discharge of all different shades of colors to come out for a few weeks. No sex for a few weeks either. It sounds a lot more scary than it really is. I had the freezing and a very good friend of mine had a conization. We're both fine and even have had children. You'll go for pap smears more often at first until the doc feels you've had enough normal paps to contine going the normal once a year. Good luck.
