Where does transmission occur for bottoms and tops
      #187325 - 04/21/06 05:34 AM

Does anyone know exactly how the virus transmits between bottoms and tops?

I can understand how it happens in the bottoms case, the intestinal wall absorbes all types of things, however what about the just inside the sphincter? Could you theoretically become infected through being rimmed by someone with a high viral load, or someone playing with your anus with infected cum on their finger?

How long does the virus live outside the body? If it was either in blood or cum, then I would imagine this fluid would nurture it as long as it didn't dry out.

Also what about the top? Is the virus only spread via the urethral orifice, or can it be transmitted via the glans as well?

What can happen if the condom doesn't go all the way down to the base of the penis?

Rimming and fingering are not implicated as ways of transmission. Transmission on a top can only occur through the uretha or through the cells on the underside of the foreskin if a man is not circumcised. Other than those cells skin is an effecitive barrier. A condom need not cover all the way to the base because transmission would only occur around the head.

You need to be aware although not rimming is not a means of transmission for HIV is can spread Hep B which is found is feces.

HIV does survive for long in the environment. It's difficult to determine the exact amount of time but beomes non infectious quickly.

It is riskier for the bottom partner to become infected because the anal cavity or vaginal cavity provide an environment where HIV can survive and will increase the odds of transmission when the semen remains exposed to the cells for a longer period of time.
