Hello folks! Have spent a few hours reading about 80 pages of posts over the last 6 months or so. Alot of people seem very informed and educated about aids on here so I was wondering if someone could kindly answer my question. I had drunken unprotected sex twice this week with a young lady who I am told has been quite promiscuous. She claims to have tested negative recently and has had few sexual partners but some of her close friends told me both statements were false so i can't rely on that. There is 0% chance I was positive prior to this. I was wondering if you could assess the probability of contracting the virus based on 2 encounters if she were in fact positive. Please don't tell me how stupid it was and that I need to take a test in 3 months...this much I know. Can you just assesss the risks for me statistically. It was not anal and I am circumcised.I would appreciate your input greatly as, like many people here, I am naturally freaking out at my stupidity and weakness. Thanks much and god bless.

Don't worry too much, even she is positive, your chance of getting the disease in a single encounter is 1 in 1000. (1 in 200 or 300 for woman or uncircumsized man). If the girl is white, the chance she is having hiv is 1 in 3000, if she is black, the chance is 1 in 160. If you don't live in New York / California area, the chances are even lower.
If you don't want to wait for 3 month and money is not an issue, you can take a PCR test at Specialized testing. They provide anonymnous test through Quest Diagnostics through out the country. In fact, I called them yesterday and going to have my test today. PCR test needs 5-7 days to get the result. But you have to wait for 4 weeks after exposure, at 4 weeks it is conclusive. Don't worry too much, I am much worse situation than you, uncircumsized, had sex with a black prostitute from New York area who using drugs, I didn't took a ELISA antibody test at 5 weeks but it is not conclusive at all, so I am going to take a PCR test for hiv, plus tests for Hepetitus B, C, and Herpes Complex I,II through specialized testing. It is expensive, $695 for all of this, but it is worth it. I used the public phone to call to avoid a phone record. the number is 8005848183. The procedure is that they will give you a code number which you will use to draw blood samples and get results. The testing results doesn't go to your insurance, family or anybody. Take care and good luck!
