a lot of people who never know they have HIV find out when they get PCP. I have heard the symptoms are Fever and dry cough. How could people who get PCP not notice these symptoms ?

I was one who did not find out I was even poz until I landed in the hospital with PCP. I thought it may have been my allergies or just a chest cold. I never thought I was HIV poz. Are you trying to diagnse yourself as HIV by a cold? If you were in a high risk then go get tested.

Let me tell you, you know. When you are unable to climb a flight of stairs in your house without feeling exhausted, and you start dropping weight ( unexplained weight loss) and that cough and fever get worse......you go straight to the emergency room at you hospital.

What stage of the disease do U have to be in do get PCP? Can u get it say in the window period or when U have full blown aids? Are gingivitis or sensitive teeth a common symptom as well?

It usually happens when your t-cells drop below 200. Not everyone gets it though. Your teeth have nothing to do with it.

Instead of stress over 'symptoms' why not just get a test? Is there some reason you can't test?

It was not that I can't test. I did not think I had to. I was with my ex for 6 years and had my daughter by him. Went through usual blood test during pregnancy and was neg. Must have got it some time during or after my pregnancy or even was in the window period when I was tested. I did not know. 8 Years later and almost 3 years into my marriage I ended up sick with PCP>

I did test at 5 and 7 months. Both -ve so I guess that should account for any possible "false negatives" right? So I guess regardless of the symptoms I have or claim to have my problems are not HIV related........

That would be correct. Both your tests were outside the window so you have TWO conclusive negative results. HIV is not the cause of any of your ailments.

hi

regards from india

Pneumocystis carinii Pneumonia(PCP) is a kind of pneumonia, people whose immune systems are weak because of HIV infection can get PCP.

Generally PCP is experienced in the later stages of HIV infection, when there is a marginal drop in the CD4 counts and the immune system is very weak.

Symptoms should not be used as a tool to diagnose.

Goodluck

PCP is a potential danger for anyone whose T4 cells are below 200. Normal is 500 and above. That is not a marginal drop.
