Hi,
I had a high risk overseas unprotected male to female encouter about a month and a half ago. I got a blood test at 2 weeks which was negitive, but i realize those results are meaningless at this point. Lately I have been experiencing bad ringing in both my ears. My question is, can the be a sign of HIV, and if so, could it appear just 45 days after being infected? The literature I found was unclear. Thanks in advance for any help.

Persistent tinnitus may be caused by problems in any of the organ parts related to hearing. It may be caused by wax in the outer ear, ear infection, impacted teeth, or infected sinuses or tonsils. Medical problems, such as nerve disorders, arteriosclerosis, or hypertension, may also cause tinnitus. More persistent, although not constant, tinnitus may be the result of exposure to loud noise, head injury, or antibiotic drugs. Tinnitus may occasionally be the first symptom of more serious diseases, including Ménière’s disease, an inner ear condition that results in hearing loss; otosclerosis, a hereditary disease of the inner ear; and otitis, inflammation of the ear. Much less frequently, tinnitus is the result of vascular, or blood vessel, disorders close to the ear or in the neck, such as a tumor or an aneurysm, a blisterlike bulge in a blood vessel.

hi
regards from india
Tinnitus, maybe the culprit, which is causing those ringing sounds. Anyways, symptoms should not be used as a tool to diagnose/evaluated your status.
The ODDS are in your favour of not having contracted HIV. You may want to test at 12 weeks for a definitive result.

One other thing that causes ringing in the ear is your Thyroid. The thyroid is one thing that is affected by a viral infection. My Thryoid is up and down for some reason and was always normal before my exposure. I had it checked once a year because my family has a history of it. Funny how all of a sudden my Thyroid is acting up! Just one more thing to add to my list of problems, have so many, it's hard to keep track. Read my post titled "It's been a crazy year".

I found that playing Pink Floyd's The Wall at 100 decibals in my Jeep Wranger caused extensive ringing in my ears. The upshot, when I got to the ID specialists office and tested. My Cd4 to Cd8 ratio actually improved by 3%. GO figure. Could be the meds, could be the Floyd.

LOL.. what about Scorpion? :)
Within the first month after my exposure, I was experiencing the same thing (tinnitus), I went to see the Oto... but he didn't find anythig abnormal... As soon as I started ignoring the noise, it went away.. I don't know if it was thanks to The Beatles, but it did go away.
