Based on Dr Bob's comments, asymptomatic condition can go on for a decade. What does this mean??doed this mean that someone would not be able to get a positive result from the ELISA?

No. it means that you wouldn't have any "symptoms" or illnesses resulting from the HIV infection. You would still test positive for antibodies.

hi
regards from india
Asymptomatic HIV infection is a phase during chronic infection with HIV during which there are no symptoms of HIV infection.
Asymptomatic HIV infection is a period of varying length in which there is slow deterioration of the immune system without clinical symptoms. There is frequently a decline in the CD4 counts also.
The length of this phase may vary among individuals and may correlate with the level of replication of HIV in each individual, as well as genetic differences in the way the immune system handles the virus.
However the person will produce antibodies and test positive for it.
