Does Orasure rapid test pick up anything else???
      #177276 - 02/26/06 08:42 AM

antibody wise I mean???

*Im talking about the oral test..not the blood one*

Can anything else affect the result? Medicines or anything??

Is it like that ELISA test, where it checks for antibodies, but it also has the possibility of picking up OTHER antibodies that aren't HIV?? Or does it strictly look for HIV antibodies?

Recently there have been a number of cases of people testing positive on the Ora-sure test who are in fact neg. For this reason, several clinics have suspended the use of this particular test.

The test is designed only to determine if you are HIV positive, it is not supposed to be reactive to any other antibodies.

The advantages of this test are that it is quick and painless (no needle). You take your test and get the answer all in the same day. This may in fact reduce your amount of stress.

All of the false positives were backed up with other tests to confirm which it was confirmed to be false readings. Many sites have stopped using them until this small problem is corrected, at the sites here in L.A. and Sf. and a few others around the USA they have stopped using them for the time being, and the standard Elisa test is backed up with a western blot test to confirm, as is any FDA approved test.
