I know that swollen glands can happen with ARS, and not usually after that 2-4 weeks, but I have concerns with painful swollen glands and a sore throat. I know it's cold/flu season.. I know symptoms are not diagnositc. These facts aren't helping my state of mind right now, as I have had canker sores, then vaginosis, then a bad stomach flu, and now this throat/ glands thing. I know stess can damage the immune system, but I can't get out of my head that HIV can as well. I read on here that a few newly diagnosed/ infected individuals had problems with chronic swollen glands, and I have had one gland under my chin swollen since the canker sore I had several weeks ago. Now with the sore throat, the other side is swollen and tender. I also have a few small ones in my groin, are these normal? I try not to touch them, as I've read that I can actually make them swell, but I have touched them maybe, a couple times this week. I do realize how paranoid I sound. I looked into therapy for my anxiety, but can not afford it right now (I make just a little too much to recieve any assistance) My question is, I was thinking of getting a 10 week test done to ease my anxiety, and a final one at 13 weeks. Would you recommend ELISA, or would a rapid blood test be suitable? The local health department offers both.

i have also had swollen glands for 2 months now.I dont know whats going on with be,because i dont have sex yet and only risky encounter was kissing a girl for the most 1 minute. No bleeding gums nor anything i think.Thats why i am so confused. That was my first real deep kiss in my life and i wonder if i could really be that unlucky and caught hiv from that girl. Also i dont know about that girl hiv status.Swollen glands started to hurt about 3 days after the exposure. So i am your pal in that boat, there are 2 of us now.

To the first poster: a ten week test will be an extremely reliable indicator of your status. But why not wait the full 13 and then put this whole thing to bed; my guess is that a result at 10 weeks will only offer fleeting respite from your anxiety.
To the second poster: the only boat you are in is the "SS Fruitcake"! You cannot get HIV from kissing. End of story. But you can get a cold, the flu and no doubt countless other relatively inconsequential bugs. So if you are not feeling well, go an show your swollen glands to a Dr., but say bye bye to this (and other HIV-related) websites, because you have no business being here. The only thing I would suggest is to go to aidsmeds.com and read the 'lessons' section on how HIV is transmitted in order to avoid a rather paranoid love live in future!

if it eases your mind get the 10 week test but you will have to test at 13 for a definitive answer. as for the test ,get the rapid blood test if they offer it, 20 min is alot better than 2 weeks and the accuracy is the same. love and peace
