a bit worried even after 6 months
      #171580 - 01/25/06 09:28 PM

I have tested negative 4 times in 6 months but had just about
all the HIV text book systems from week 3 to week 10.
Now just white tongue at times and minor acne.
Thing is I have not had much acne in 20 years.
Anyone know what per cent people seroconvert between
6 months and 12 months?
Risk was receptive and insertive oral (unprotected).
Thanks

All the best mate.

you are negative, unless you have suffered all your life with auto immune disease and it would be all your life, you are negative. please try to see if it is something else, stress can cause alot of physical ailments it can also bring out pre existing things, allergies for one. love and peace

Horsehit Bura - I am getting fed up with you, can you tell?

A WB test is only used as confirmation of a positive ELISA test. It is never used by itself because it is not sensitive enough. It is used to rule out false positives on ELISA, not false negatives.

Specific and Sensitive have very clear meanings in HIV testing. Saying something is more specific does not necessarily make it a more appropriate test.

To the poster - six months negative is absolutely negative. Nearly all authorities say 3 months is good enough. Your risk was close to nil anyway. And your symptoms are so massively unspecific to HIV as to be completely irrelevant.

Relax. You do not have HIV.

I had lots of symptoms:
burning in chest, fatigue, dizziness, rash on trunk on
some folicitus on extremities, even small case of zoster
at 4 months,etc.
No fever. Lymph node swelling 5 months after possibly
exposure which lasted 3 days.
Regarding testing: Had 4 tests. One was a rapid and the
other 3 were PA (Particle Agglutination) which is as sensitive
as an ELISA and is used here in the Far East (Japan).
Aren`t there cases of people seroconverting after 6 months?

Thanks for all the information. Wishing you all well.

1. Cases of people seroconverting after 3 months are very rare and limited to those with compromised immune systems (e.g. from chronic IV drug use). Find me one single documented case of conversion after 6 months in the last 10 years and I will give you a prize! The fact is that modern testing technology rules it out completely. Of course, if you want to listen to fruitcakes who will tell you that nothing is certain and you may be that one on 10 million person, then I suggest you wrap yourself in cotton wool and never leave the house again for fear of being crushed by a meteor from the planet Zarg. It is more likely.

2. Your symptoms are very non-specific and a lot of them can be directly related to stress / anxiety. You should also be aware that long term stress can lower your body's immune system and make you more vulnerable to infection. The timeline of your symptoms is completely out of synch with that for Acute HIV. You can play the game of associating every minor or major ailment you get from now until they put you in the ground with HIV if you like, but I would suggest to you that you need to break that habit.

This board and that of similar sites (like aidsmeds) is full of people like you: a nil or very, very low risk; conclusive HIV tests and yet they cannot shake the fear in their heads. They keep coming back and saying, should I test at 6 months, 12 months, 24 months. Guess what, they do and not one of them EVER has an HIV positive test. That is because the only place they have HIV is in their head!

If your PA is negative, then from the time u took the PA, wait for 4 to 6 months and take another ELISA. This way, you can be sure of your status. this is not an advice to you, don't get me wrong.....this is what i will be doing, if my PA result comes out negative.
