Back in May I had vaginal sex with a male partner and we used a latex condom (Durex brand) and astroglide lube- the condom stayed in tact and didn't break, fall off or leak. I asked my partner if he had been tested for STD's and he said yes, and that he was all clear and always, always used condoms. He told me I had nothing to worry about and reassured me that the condom didn't break. Towards the end of August (3 months after sex with this person) I took a Home Access test just to be sure because I'm a worry wart- it came back negative. I spoke with a counselor at HA and she suggested why I tested at all considering we used a condom. She advised me to move on and that I was negative. She also asked me if there was anything else going on that would make me worry so much and there was- I was married at the time- so the guilt was/is probably playing a factor in it. Due to other reasons my husband and I have since divorced. I still can't seem to shake the worry and am freaking out again. My questions: 1. Based on the information listed above, do you think I need to continue testing for HIV just in case the test missed it or something? 2. Will an intact latex condom block the passage of HIV if it were present?
Any advice, suggestions you can give would be appreciated greatly. Please respond as I'm very worried and would like to once again rest easy. At the time when I engaged in the sex, I felt like I was being responsible by using condoms, etc, but I'm still worried.
Thank you.

yes latex & polyurethane condoms do stop the transfer of HIV, however ...some STD's arent stopped, for the simple fact, infected areas of certain STD's arent covered by a condom. An interesting tidbit about durex brand, they are made with a formulated mix of latex and polyurethane, is called Duron...and its been proven to be something like 10 times stronger than yer average latex or polyurethane condom
As far as your worry, As long as you havent put yourself at risk anymore, theres no need for worry or more testing. If you continue to find this fear dominating your life, consult a counselor and talk to them about it.....

Your facts are so clear-cut that no matter how many times you ask the same question, you are going to get the same answer.
You had safe / protected sex = no risk. You have tested conclusively negative = no infection.
Please do yourself a big favour and move on with your life.
God bless!
PS: AIDS2HIV - thank's for that interesting fact about Durex. However, on checking the Durex website, I find that it does NOT apply to all condoms made by Durex but only ones called "Avanti". Not that this is relevant to this lady's situation at all - any latex condom that does not break is a barrier to HIV transmission (and her test results prove that she does not have HIV anyway).

the fact that you are still worried shows that there's something you are not telling us...there's no smoke without a fire. honestly, why are you so worried if you tested neg, plus used a condom? you and you alone know the true story!
