STD & HIV?
      #171156 - 01/24/06 02:37 AM

Hello,

It has been sometime i've made a posting. Just wanna update my condition. I still have night sweats,i have swelling under my armpits, i have a slight swelling on the joint between my leg and torso. I do have scallop toungue. I have been testing from october 2005 and my last test was 20th January 2006. Everything ws just fine until there was a burst of rashes on my right hand.the rashes is not together, but i can see 7 red marks on my right hand all different shapes and sizes. So, again i took my ELISA test again today. This time around, i took the STD package to check for syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes simplex, and HIV. My question, if i do have any of this STD, this means there is a high probability that i would get HIV as well? Usually the other std's wat are the symptoms and after how long they would infect us after an exposure? Also is it possible to get std's but not hiv?I had an unprotected oral and protected sex....how does this std's spread?

I do know that it is very possible, and in many cases, people contract other std's and NOT HIV. I think that answers one of your questions. For example, HPV (genital warts) affects approximately 75% of sexually active people, but only shows signs and symptoms in some people. The only way to know for sure is to get your test results back and talk to a doctor.

so, this means that if i do have std i will have a high chance of having HIV infection??If this is so, then the 13 weeks conclusive test is a myth man. Honestly guys, i am not sure what is wrong with me.....so i am just hoping for the best. But day by day, more and more symptoms are appearing....and gosh it has been at least 173 days since my last exposure. Sigh....pray for me guys.

Bura,

Your HIV test will tell you your HIV status. Your other STD tests will tell you your status as regards the other STDs. That is it plain and simple. If you happen to test positive for an STD it in no way at all affects the validity of your HIV test result.

The only connection between HIV and STDs is that some STDs can increase the chances of you catching HIV if you have been exposed to it (for example, herpes could create sores which would make it easier for HIV to get into your bloodstream if you had sex with an infected person). But there is no impact on the sensitivity or validity of the timeline for the HIV test.

I can tell you now that you will test negative for HIV because you have already done so way past the window period. Whether or not you happen to test positive for another STD is completely irrelevant. Millions of people have STDs but not HIV. A very high proportion of people, for example, have Herpes. So what? It means nothing in terms of predicting their HIV status.

You appear to be getting more and more desperate to come up with some twisted logic to prove you have HIV. You don't.

Hey, i really don't understand this. Assuming i have never had STD, and now when i test for STD and i an reactive, this basically means that i have increase my percentage of getting HIV? so if i tested non-reactive for 173 days, thus i should be clear of hiv?

Bura,
You never gave me your phone number... I wanted to talk to you..Anyways, if you don't wanna talk your questions in this forum is getting really annoying...seriously...This is from a worry wart to another but it is true. I myself felt bad after I posted at aidsmeds yesterday...Only U can make yourself believe that you don't have HIV. If I test fine at 3 months, I am going to go on with my life regardless of what stupid symptomps i get...if they are so bad I cannot wake up from my bed without support or can't do simple things, I will call my doctor up who should have some answers for me but...don't speculate and post the forum with your anxiety...It sounds harsh but it is true...email me and we can talk...There is no one in this forum that can help you 100% and convince you..Do you want them to tell you that you have HIV based on your symptoms? Would you do that to any other posters here? If they come up with all the symptoms, do you just tell them 'You are screwed man, you have HIV 100%, go prepare for funeral?" and actually I don't know if you know this or not HIV+ve people have been leaving healthy lives by following up with medication and maintaining a healhty life style....
Hope this is going to make sense to you man, if not only God can help
Regards
Andy

Brother WW,

I did email you, and you have not replied. I have requested to add you to my yahoo messenger and i am still waiting. Correct, that if you are tested at 3 months and passed, then you would go on with your life......i agree 100%. For my case, i really do feel that there is something in my blood. The body changes, skin.....thats why i am not confident. According to one of Daisey's post, she says that everyone's body would react differently. I am worried that i am a rare case, and thats why i am asking lots of questions. The person can feel whether he/she is a rare case or not. If you would call me annoying, there is nothing that i can do. i really do hope that all is well with us including myself coz, to become a positive after testing for i can say at least 173 days, is very wasteful. Brother, we are all here to learn,to support and to get to know others. I don mean to scare people, it is just that i do not want to take things for granted. As i told you guys before, better be sure than sorry. Do not tell people that once u completed 13 weeks test than is conclusive. i bet u don't wan sending off a positive by telling him that he is negative just because he concluded a 3 or 5 months tests? i amhoping for the best for all of us, but i believe we should not be too confident with the scientific facts. Thankyou my brother.

Bura

Bura,

Let me try to explain:

1. IF you have an STD already, that STD may make you more vulnerable to being infected by HIV if you have UNPROTECTED sex with an HIV+ person. This is because the fact that you have an STD may make it easier for HIV to get into your bloodstream, via sores or whatever.

2. If you contract an STD from an sexual incident, that in no way makes any difference to the chances or otherwise of you contracting HIV from that same incident. Millions of people catch herpes, clamydia and other STDs each year. Millions of people are infected with STDs and do not have HIV.

3. All of this is completely irrelevant to testing. If you have tested negative at 173 days, you are conclusively negative. It does not matter whether you test positive for ANYTHING else, that has no impact on your HIV result. If you test positve for an STD, all it will mean is that you have whatever STD you test positive for.

Stop trying to make up bullshit pseudo-scientific reasons to doubt your test results. Why are you trying to punish yourself like this? You absolutely DO NOT HAVE HIV.

If your symptoms bother you go to a doctor and work with him on a diagnosis. I can tell you that the one diagnosis you will not get with your test results is HIV.
