HCV/HIC coinfection
      #170946 - 01/23/06 07:24 PM

Please, can somebody help me. I am really frightened.
I had receptive anal sex (condom, but no lube so may have damaged condom) and gave oral sex on 7th Oct - i know my anus was was cut as it bled afterwards.
I lost about 10lbs over the 3-4th week after.
At about 6 weeks, the glands in my neck and armpits were swollen.
At the same time i vomited three times and felt extreme fatigue.
The next week, the glands in my groin came up and stayed up for a couple of days with a pain in my spleen.
In work, my colleagues noticed and were concerned i was ill.
At 8 1/2 weeks i got a full STD and HIV screening done - all came back clear.
I then went to my doctor the next week and had blood tests done for mono, thyroids, CBC and liver function.
All came back clear excpet a slight elevation in ALT in the liver test - it was at 67 (range 5 - 50) the doc said this may be down to drinking the day before, but i don't drink.
I then had Hepatitis and HIv tests down at 12weeks 5days - all came back clear.
In the meantime, my doc has referred me to a specialist at the hospital, because of my concerns.
This week i have had extreme pain in my upper right abdomen and the corresponding area on my back, accompanied by discomfort and abdominal bloating. This is probably HCV at least, as it has a longer window period, but couldn't co-infection result in a longer window period for HIV due to the body working overtime to produce antibodies?
I am really concerned and don't know who else to talk to. I have just this past week suffered pain in my liver area which brings me right back to hep c/hiv co-infection. I am just praying to God that it is something else. Please help...
Thank-you. Does anybody know if this extends window? Is this the few percent? Have asked dr bob over and over but no response. Please help

you can have a HCV viral load test. Unlike HIV, if infected, you will always have detectable load on HCV...
