s********ing bricks!
      #16888 - 03/23/01 11:27 AM

Hi guys,

I was here on this board a couple of years back. I went through hell. I had all the classic symptoms of ARS and i flew to the US to get checked by the doctor. They made a whole buch of tests including an HIV ELISA whcih came out negative. AFter the first doctor didnt find anything wrong for my ill feelings he sent me to another specialist which repeated the HIV test but this time he did WB.which was negative also. I had a lymph node byopsy and they never found anything. I kept taking the elisa tests for a full year because of stress and anxiety. I had to see a shrink because of it too. After all this time and the doctors reassuring me there was nothing wrong. The doc calls my parents that live in the US and tell them i should keep on checking it up!!!! this is after 2 years!!!! I tried to call him up to find out why and he is not in until the end of next week!!
Man! is there anything new about this desease i dont know about? what the hell is going on. Is this doctor a fruit or is my anxiety now over nothing? Can you give me some reassurance here anybody? thanks!

I understand your point. But, you need to understand that many people on this site are taking EVERY HIV test known to man for a year straight and still trying to convince themselves (ans everyone on this site) that they're positive after kissing a stranger in a "spin the bottle" game. Then, we have people who have had unprotected sex with an HIV+ person within the last 12 weeks! Therefore, while I agree that everyone deserves sympathy and understanding, it's quite frustrating to see people disregard ALL HIV facts and still be obsessing over that "kiss" that took place over a year ago. A lot of people on here have legitimate HIV concerns and are coming to this site for a bit of sanity during this crazy window period. So, try to understand why some people might be a bit harsh when another's concern is a bit silly. And, on the same note, I agree with you that there are a lot of insensitive control freaks on this board.

Right on about that! There is a worried well HIV board at www.healthboards.com for the "kiss on the cheek crowd". I agree, it isn't fair to be insensitive, but you are correct there are people here who may be "low-moderate risk" but have at least had a real exposure (and there are high risk people too). I think THAT is what the board is for. To not even have been exposed, test negative anyway, and STILL be worried, is kind of unfair and frustrating to the people with real concerns. Sorry to seem mean....

My Doctor tells me it can take up to ten years to produce enough antibodies to test positive.

Your doctor is misinformed. It can take up to 10 years to show symptoms of aids.
