Oraquick and Orasure have NOT been shown to be inaccurate per se....they have been proven to be overly sensitive, thus creating a greater percentage of false POSITIVES, than the blood test. All postivie reults by ELISA or the rapid testing MUST be confirmed with the Western Blot....so while someone may suffer a false postive, a negative result is one you can take to the bank.

I had an HIV test it was negative! What I am wondering is I read that sometimes if you have already advanced to AIDS the HIV test will come back negative. Did they test you with an HIV test that came back postitive??? I have symptoms that are associated with AIDS not HIV and wondered if that is what is happening. Although all my bloodwork is completely normal....so my Doctor thinks I am being neurotic I think. I know something is wrong though. Night sweats every night for three months, tongue lesions on the side that have not gone away or scaped off (Dr. doesn't know what it is) pain in joints, underarms, fatigue and just an over all not feeling right.

It is only in very rare cases, near the end of life that a person's immune system has been damaged to the point that a person with HIV would not test positive on an ELISA. Keep in mind this would mean that you are not producing antibodiies...to ANYTHING AT ALL.

If you were to find yourself in that situation, rest assured that a) you would be deathly ill and in the ICU. b) doctor's would still know if you had HIV because of an extremely high viral load.

However, since you are posting on here....I'm assuming you have not found yourself deathly ill and you doctor has not told you that you need to get your affairs in order.

Congratulations on the fact you are not infected!
