actually...heres how i was discovered. I had gotten a high fever, a fever i couldnt get rid of, after a week i was afraid of getting too sick to do my job so i went to the ER. Thank God the doctor on call knew what he was looking at. I had oral thrush going on, a butterfly patch on my face from CMV, I was full blown. Id been sick along time...this is why this disease spreads so much. It takes it a long time to get you sick enough to notice that something wrong. A person can carry this unknowingly for yrs on end, before it gets them sick enough. Its IMPORTANT that the world population, individually, take it upon themselves to care enough about themselves to just go get tested. The earlier ya catch this, the better off you are. oraquick & rapid testing has been shown to be very inaccurate....i suggest an ELISA, and if it comes up positive, check it again with a western blot test

it was about a week after that, that i became so ill i couldnt walk, i became confined to bed for 3 months...but up until then, i was the type that hardly ever caught a cold. in fact, the winter prior to my diagnosis, all the kids brought flu home from school, complete with upper respitory infection....everyone got it BUT me....you never know i guess..Good Luck & God Bless You

Oraquick and Orasure have NOT been shown to be inaccurate per se....they have been proven to be overly sensitive, thus creating a greater percentage of false POSITIVES, than the blood test. All postivie reults by ELISA or the rapid testing MUST be confirmed with the Western Blot....so while someone may suffer a false postive, a negative result is one you can take to the bank.

I had an HIV test it was negative! What I am wondering is I read that sometimes if you have already advanced to AIDS the HIV test will come back negative. Did they test you with an HIV test that came back postitive??? I have symptoms that are associated with AIDS not HIV and wondered if that is what is happening. Although all my bloodwork is completely normal....so my Doctor thinks I am being neurotic I think. I know something is wrong though. Night sweats every night for three months, tongue lesions on the side that have not gone away or scaped off (Dr. doesn't know what it is) pain in joints, underarms, fatigue and just an over all not feeling right.

It is only in very rare cases, near the end of life that a person's immune system has been damaged to the point that a person with HIV would not test positive on an ELISA. Keep in mind this would mean that you are not producing antibodiies...to ANYTHING AT ALL.

If you were to find yourself in that situation, rest assured that a) you would be deathly ill and in the ICU. b) doctor's would still know if you had HIV because of an extremely high viral load.

However, since you are posting on here....I'm assuming you have not found yourself deathly ill and you doctor has not told you that you need to get your affairs in order.

Congratulations on the fact you are not infected!

do they test your viral load automatically on an ELISHA test or only if it is positive??

in laymen's terms....viral load = amount of the virus in your blood....if yer negative to the virus theres no viral load...so no, that kinda of testing doesnt come til after you are confirmed positive....God Bless

hahaha. I'm sorry, i thought i made it quite clear in any of my posts on any boards, my test came out positive...as of dec 13th my cd4 count was 211 and my viral load was at 2750. which is way up compared to what i was at time of diagnosis, when my cd4's were only 15, and my viral load was so high , they couldnt chart it...
