Reliability of 10 week test
      #165734 - 11/30/05 02:49 PM

Hi,

I am in Canada. I had one time unprotected receptive oral sex exposure without any ejaculation. I got tested at 10 weeks after exposure. I am not quite sure, what generation they are using for testing. My test was NEGATIVE. I past 13 weeks already but I have some symtomps and I am scared for another test. Do u think my 10 week test is good enough?

Need urgent opinion.

i wish all my concerns were like yours. you are negative, stay like that. be safe, and remember something i overlook all the time...alcohol and sex is a bad combination.
take care

you're fine dude...just fine, get the other test though, not because you need it, you don't, but I can tell you will not stop freaking until you get it.

Well, you think I am OK but people are saying there are lot's of documented cases where HIV transmitted through oral sex without ejaculation. I feel like I am one of those unlucky ones. I got tested at 10 weeks to they do not tested me for 13 weeks and they are asking me to wait for 6 months. I am about to lose it. what is the generation of hiv tests used in Canada and reliability of HIV test at 10 week?

hi

regards from india

Firstoff your exposure was on the lower scale as far as HIV exposures are concerned and testing would be advisable only for relieving anxiety and stress.

Your 10 week negative result rules out HIV infection, considering you had oral sex, however CDC recommends a 12 week test for definitive result.

the ball is in your court, if you can move on with a negative result which you got at 10 weeks..well nothing like it, if not you may want to test at 12 weeks.

Goodluck

stay well

take care

god bless you

Nobody is going to give you exact % for accuracy of a ten week test (I really don't think these stats exist) but it is, without a doubt a very reliable test. The VAST majority of people who test positive will do so by the 6th week, you have very very little to worry about. I am not sure if you were sucking or getting sucked but your risk to start out with is either very low or none at all, so take a deep breath and try and think rationally, I am sure you are HIV-
