THRUSH
      #165215 - 11/25/05 05:38 AM

Hi
I have been with my partner for five and a half years now and during my pregnancy 3 years ago was given the routine HIV test which was negative. My question is that I have been reading through the sites about vaginal thrush and it says it can take between 5-10 years in HIV infection to come up. I had an HIV test 3 weeks ago and this came back negative and since this time have developed vaginal thrush and this is now worrying me. Do you think I need to have another test in 3 months time? Thanks for your time everyone.

What you read is that it can take years for symptoms to appear....NOT a positive result. A positive test would come within three months. As for thrush....a vaginal yeast infection is VERY VERY common in women pos and neg alike. IT is nothing to be concerned about at all. But, most importantly you have repeatedly tested neg and you do not have HIV. Relax....no further testing needed.

Most people will test postive by 6 weeks. That 5 to 10 years is the time that will elaspe from the time of infection to symptoms when a person has untreated HIV. You're test was conclusive. The warning on the packages of Vaginal creams is for women who suddenly are getting repeat infections that don't seem to clear up. Then if they do not already know their status a test would be a good idea, however keep in mind that many things can cause repeat infections...including an infection that is not treated in a male partner. If you are having repeat yeast infections, that are not being cleared up with over the counter medications, see your doctor.

hi

regards from india

A test shows positive results within 3 months, provided the person is infected, from what you state i do not see any cause of concern.Vaginal thrush is quite common in women, if you feel worried you may want your symptoms to be evaluated from your health care provider.

HIV shouldn't be your cause of concern.

goodluck

stay well

I am CONFIDENT that your test is accurate. It is VERY common for a woman to get a yeast infection. Most people with hiv may contract oral thrush (later stages), or very chronic yeast infection. This seems like a one time event in 5 yrs. Has your partner ever been tested as well? (again not that I would make that concern you.....doubt he does, but even then.....you may STILL not have even gotten it, and you may have a very sick child by this time)

do the cream for it, and I am sure you will be fine. (FYI I have also heard that "silky" panties could cause yeast infections, and also wearing tight jeans alot....true....i've heard if from MD, and nurses!.

love and prayers, please let me know how you are doing?

Debbie
