during anal sex there is a high likelihood that the fragile tissues in the anus will tear and present a means of transmission for the virus to enter the body. Oral sex doesn't usually present that problem (unless it is really bad oral sex ;-)

Mick,

Why dont you tell us why your worried about HIV instead of beating around the bush. The reason why Anal is very risky is because its in a warm cozy invirment where it likes and can survive. The other reason is like Faith said its easy to tear and the virus can get into your blood stream . The reason why oral sex is on the very low risk scale is because or the fact of salvia and air. It doesnt like the mouth thats why theres very few infections that way. I didnt say no risk but its a low risk. Im talking about giving a BJ not getting one. It all has to do with the invirment its in. So Vaginal and anal are on top of the risk chart when it comes to HIV.

The main infection fluids that contain HIV are blood, semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk.

The main portals of infection are open wounds, cuts, abrasion, sores *AND* mucous membranes such as in the eye, penis, vagina, and anus and throat.

When infection fluids (blood, semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk) can get in touch with a portal(cuts, sores, abrasion, mucuous membranes), it's bad news.

Anal sex is dangerous because, there is lots of mucous membranes and tissue that can tear in the anus and hence there is both a portal for infection and infectious fluid (blood from the tear, if the insertee is HIV+) for the person being inserted. For the inserter, there is lots of mucous membranes on the penis that acts as a portal from the blood of the insertee and pre-cum and semen that cause a danger to the person being inserted (if the inserter is HIV+).
I know that was written a bit awkardly, but I think you know what I am talking about.

Bad news for both parties. Use a condom and lots of lube to help avoid breakage.

Oral sex is less dangerous for the inserter because in general the only fluid being exposed to is saliva which has low concentrations of HIV *and* it has enzymes that tends to chew up HIV. Remember that your mouth is an organ of digestion and saliva breaks down proteins. *However* if the person giving you oral sex has bleeding gums or has a cut in the mouth (how do you know that they don't - do you give them a dental exam?) then you run some risk of getting infected.

For the person giving oral sex, they would be exposed to the pre-cum or semen or vaginal secretions of the other person. If you have really good oral health (no bleeding gums) you are at lower risk. However, there are mucous membranes in the mouth and it is theoretically possible to get infected and there have been documented cases of infection. Giving head is more dangerous than getting it.

Use a condom or plastic wrap or dental dam
