Depends on the modes of transmission

Sharing needles is just as dangerous for both sexes.

Unprotected oral would be slightly riskier for the female I think since she is the passive partner unless the male has cuts upon his penis

Unprotected vaginal/anal is more riskier for the woman as there is more chance that the lining of either part of the body ripping

Of course, as long as people use protection then neither is in more harms way.

Just a follow-up on 2ndchance's comment...unprotected anal is equally as dangerous for a man as the receiver (not sure if that is the correct term...but you get the idea).

2ndchance, your answers are specific to heterosexual sex. (And I suppose in this case, that's what we're talking about.)

But a better way to put it would be that the receptive partner -- no matter the gender -- is generally at greater risk. Plainly put, the person getting fucked or doing the sucking is at greater risk than the person fucking or being sucked.

Biologically, there's nothing about the HIV virus that makes it prefer men or women. And though the receptive partner may be at greater risk in intercourse, the active partner is also at some risk if protection isn't used.

HIV has a really hard time burrowing through the latex in a condom. Imagine having to dig through a 300 foot wall, with your hands alone. That's about what HIV has to do (I read that the thinnest condom is about 50 times the size of the HIV virus).

So before the virus digs through that 300 foot wall to find out whether there was a man or a woman on the other side, the sex is all finished. Unless you are having sex for 50 years in a row :-)

Consumer reports even rates the most reliable condoms, do a google search for it. Use water based lube and you are stacking the deck in your favor.
