What do mouth ulcers look and feel like? Are they like the kind you get after eating too many acidy foods or sour/salty foods? I get those about once a month or every two months but Im not really sure if its from the food/ candy or something else..

Hi,

Why are you worrying about mouth ulcers? Did you have any sort of risk? Cant tell if you have ulcers or not but leave that up to a ENT doctor..

Mouth ulcers are round crate like areas in your mouth on the soft parts, not usually on your gums or the roof of your mouth. They are white/grayish with a redish halo around them. The sting like crazy. They take anywhere from 7 to 14 days to heal. I have had them last up to 19 days. They are usually the size of a pencil eraser or smaller, but can be larger and quite painful. They are not indicative of HIV. The main causes believed to trigger these is stress and vitamin deficiency. Yes, people with HIV/AIDS do get ulcers, but so do a large portion of the negative population as well. They are believe to be genetic, but not contagious. There is no treatment for them, other than paliative care (to make the pain less intense) They go away on their own.
