PEP/Seroconversion delays ...
      #158955 - 08/22/05 12:27 AM

An answer to a previous post has led me to submit this question. First a little background ...

I had brief (20-30 sec.) unprotected insertive anal sex with someone of unknown status on June 23rd. Within 12 hours I started a PEP regimen consisting of Nelfinavir, 3TC and 4DT. I stopped 11 days later (July 4th) due to a bad rash. I was recently retested on August 9th -- the 6 week mark from the day of the encounter -- and received a NEG result!

In a previous post you mentioned that PEP could possibly delay seroconversion. I was confident with my 6 week result -- even the clinic said they've never seen anyone test neg and 6 weeks and poz at 12 weeks. Can I still WOO-HOO! or do you think I tested too early after stopping my PEP regimen.

Any advice?

From what I read everything is indicating that ur are fine. But the truth is that 6 weeks is not conlcusive, u may be one of those weirdos that tests positive after 3 months. and yeah i think PEP can influence in seroconversion, but still u have nothing to worry. 20 seconds of unprotected i dont think its even enough for precum to be present. Take care.

You were only on the medication for 11 days and the window begins when your PEP treatment ended. So, test at 15 weeks and it will be conclusive. I say a negative ELISA anytime after 4 weeks is already a great sign.
