Last year my boyfriend had shingles the Dr's just treated it and sent him on his way. Then this year he had an eye infection and his eye Dr said to get an HIV test just to rule it out.Well he has full blown AIDS and we never knew it.They said he has it for about 10 to 12 yrs.but if you met him you would never know.I thank GOD that we found out and he is on MEDS now and I am very lucky because I have been tested twice and I am neg.

You would likely become ill with opportunistic infections which are rare for someone who doesn't have AIDS. From what I understand most HIV+ people without treatment usually progress to AIDS within 10 years.

as the other posters have stated, there are many opportunistic infections that one can get (and usually 10yrs or more after infection could progress to aids) but there are MANY long term non progressors, who have hiv, but their immune system is really good, and they may not progress to aids for many more years than 10. if you think you have been put at risk many years ago, unfortunately, you cannot ask about what symptoms may you get from waiting......you really just need to be tested.
good luck, love and prayers, debbie
