Hey there, just have a quick question for the experts. Does a sore throat have any direct relation to HIV. I've had an ongoing sore throat that just won't go away. Along with that I have a swollen node right under my ear that's pretty painful. I've had my doctor look at it and he can't see anything wrong. Some says it's worse than others. Is there any direct relation to HIV. I do have some white blemished at the back of my throat and a pretty coated tongue(oral thrush?). Any input is appreciated!

Have you had any unprotected sexual encounters or shared a needle?
If not then it's not HIV.

Yeah, first think about ur actions. If u did not put ur health at risk(unprotected sex) then why r u even worrying right? Also, about thrush, i think most of us have a little of white thing on the back of our tongues dont we? I cheked mine and my brothers and we had a white stuff on the back of our tongue, not abundantly though. Thrush is when u have a profusely white tongue right?

not only a terrible coating on your tonge w/ thrush. but EXTREMELY PAINFUL as well. to the point where it hurts to eat, or talk. thrush is not just a coating on your tounge.
And like the other posters have stated....have you put yourself at risk?

I don't share needles but I did have a possible exposure a year ago. It was protected but alcohol was involved so I can't recall much and if there was a possible condom slippage or not. Had some very bad ARS symptoms 9 weeks later that all came at once. Swollen node on my neck, rash on my face, trunk, dandruff , skin peeling on my hands and feet and a fever. Everything cleared after a week or so but they skin went on to peel for a good 2-3 weeks. Either way i'll go get tested. Thanks for the help!

Almost any type of systemic infection could cause a sore throat. It's a very general symptom.
However, from your description of risk, it sounds like you should get an HIV test. It would be pretty unusual for ARS to occur nine weeks after an exposure -- ARS usually occurs within 2-4 weeks -- and you say you were protected, so you ought to be fine. But get a test just in case. It's always better to know.
