Hey there everyone. FIrst of all i wanted to say I appreciate what everyone does in this forum, supporting each other and giving confort. I hope it will remain this way for ever since it brings ALOT of relief to people who worry about HIV, including myself. Well after a low risk exposure one month ago, i began with diarrhea 2 days after. It has been going and coming back. It's already 40 days, i tested Negative on the 34th day. The thing is im worried cuz this diarrhea comes and goes. its never lasted so long. It generally isn't severe, but my feces is not normal, it comes out soft and smal(sorry for the disgusting detail but im really worried) NOw today i think i pooped gastric acid or something. Please, please!!! tell me how diarrhea in an acute hiv infection is. Does it last this long, and does it come and go? Is it ALWAYS severe or can it be not so severe, like mine. Pliiiz help me!!! I will appreciate an answer from u guyz.

There are many, many illnesses that can cause diarrhea, and stress itself can cause it too. You should not assume your symptoms are HIV-related, especially since your exposure was low-risk. It would not be typical for any symptom of acute infection to last for weeks and weeks.

what was your "low" risk exposure? It may very well likely just be that....diahrea, but if knowing what your risk was it would help. it could very well just be something that you have eaten (bad meat could cause diarrhea for long periods of time), or just an illness you came in contact with.
What was your exposre? and if it really was low, or no risk ask your doc if he'd do a stool culture (sure, no fun pooping in a cup). but alot of infections that cause diarrhea can turn up in a stool sample).
love and prayers to you, Debbie

Can I ask a question?
If this guy was infected, and he was going through ARS (which, it does not sound like he is), wouldn't the most likely sypmtom he would have be a FEVER? Most viruses cause fevers don't they? Your bodies first defense is to spike a fever isn't it? From what I've read, upwards to 90% of people going through ARS spike fevers. They don't have just one of the multiplex of symptoms.
Also, as most of us are stressed out...gastric problems are HUGE...think about it...when you are stressed out for days at a time...which those of us worried about HIV are, one of the first things that gets screwed up is your stomach (and intestinal tract).
Just my two cents worth, but I wouldn't be focusing on a couple of days worth of bad bowel movements...it has to be the stress.

You're absolutely right. Fever is indeed the most commonly reported ARS symptom. And we're not talking 99 degrees, either -- we're talking a real FEVER.

And, don't a very large majority of HIV positive individuals experience a fever? I looked at a Hopkins study that indicated that up to 90% of HIV positive folks (who can remember) experience a fever (at least). And you are right...it's generally a raging fever.

What can count as a raging fever? 104+?

k People seems ur all very enthusiastic about my case. Well Deb u indeed answered me before. Im the guy who kissed the sex worker and she bit my lip(i think). I tested negative at 34 days. I DID not have a fever. I got a rash for 3 days, but what really is screweing me up is this diarrhea. it is NOT severe, but my feces is lose. I did a poop check and everything seems fine. I would like u people to give me EVERYTHING u know about diarrhea in ars. Its already been 38 days of upset stomach. Im 99% sure im negative but stil im worrying, WHY THE HELL DOES MY "DIARRHEA " LAST SO LONG!!!! Thats it!!

I'm sure its just your horrible nerves right now!! You are still worried about this exposure, and dont need to be. (you stated that she wasn't bleeding). Yes, if your stomach constantly feels weird from nerves, it will change the flow of things in your GI tract. And what do you eat? You said you were not sick. just diahrrea (& a 3 day rash....could have been from ANYTHING, esp a chance in soap, detergent...anything.
Be well, debbie

I've read that the average is 101-102. (That's the average, so there's room on either side -- and a minority of people don't get a fever at all. But studies have shown that up to 80-90 percent of infected people do.)

I'm just wondering how many hundreds of people come to ths forum everyday worried if they have hiv, has ANYBODY ever replied back answering they got infected?? It seems everyone who is worried has experienced real low exposures and feel stress symptoms, and in the end really learn they're negative. im curious if anybody has ever replied saying they tested positive.

Like you have been told here and on the Aidsmeds boards you had a non exposure, you are not having HIV conversion symptoms and what you did is not in any way going to infect you with HIV. Now there are other things, Herpes, Chlamydia, etc. that you could worry about.
