Help - HIV/Chlamydia Risk
      #157663 - 07/23/05 09:15 AM

Hello everyone,

Last June 4, while traveling, I decided that I would try other sexual experiences (anal sex) and got into contact with a male prostitute. Long story short, there was some roleplay on his part, some very light biting (no blood whatsoever), very light fingering from him, and when he tried to penetrate me (he was using a condom), it was painful and I wasn't enjoying it, so I stopped it. He used lubricant.

Later, on that same day, I contacted a female "Mistress". She did perform anal sex to me (I was the receiver), using different dildos. She did clean the dildos before using them on me (at least with water, since I saw her cleaning them but did not asked her if she used anything else). She also did some flogging.

A couple of days later (about a week) I saw a strange animal (maybe a lice?) on my pubic hair, and got rid of it. Never have seen another one...

I felt nothing "strange" until three and a half (3 1/2) weeks later. I had diarrhea, wich was nothing strange to me since I was already going through a flu. However, after the diarrhea came a strange feeling in my anus. It was itchy. At first I thought I had a hemorrhoid, and had medication. It didn't got much better, so I went to the doctor. He checked me out and told me I had "tear" so that was probably the cause; he also told me it may have been caused by the diarrhea (apparently it’s acid). I also asked him for STD testing. I got tested 32 days after the sex acts and tested negative for HIV, Syphillis and Chlamydia. A week later I tested for Hepatitis A-B-C (since I had liver enzyme levels very high, except bilirubin) and also came back negative. Now, what's the problem? I have this strange sensation on my penis, wich may be called burning or itching (not when urinating) wich has, in my opinion, gotten worst. It started about 2-3 days after the anal itch, very mild, and though it is STILL mild, it's definitely not me being hypochondriac. I even had what could have been conjunctivitis, wich I treated with Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone and was quickly gone (even though chlamydia is treated with tetracycline..)However... I came back negative for chlamydia!

I have read other posts and I am aware that my HIV risk is very low. The chances that the dildos were infected is slim, since the virus is so fragile once out of the body and they were probably used only by me on that day. Even if the wered used earlier that day, they did not had any visible fluids and they were cleaned. The male prostitute, in the maybe 2-4 seconds of penetration, used a condom. I did not saw him using his finger on him before using it on me. I was aware I was taking a risk by going to prostitutes, but I thought I played it safe... and now this happens.

The worst part is that now I have gone serious with a woman(I wasn't engaged or anything with her when I experimented) and now I am not only preocuppied for myself, but for her. I informed her I may be infected with an STD (obviously did not told her why I was scared) and I have not penetrated her because of this. I found I had (this is the strange/lucky part of the story) both doxycycline and Cipro in my house, and I have enough of them to follow CDC's guidelines for treatment of chlamydia and ghonorrhea. Right now I am in my second day of treatment.

Now, taking all that into consideration...

1. Am I right that my HIV risk is close to zero? (I am worried since I feel I may have contacted chlamydia and I thought I practiced safe sex...and I'm just wondering if I played it safe and caught something... maybe I could have caught HIV also).
2. Can this burning/itching on the tip of the penis be caused by the "tear" on the anus, and it's possible, constant infection with stools? (someone may have gone through this)
3. Is there someone who knows (or know where I should search) how much time can Chlamydia and Ghonorrhea survive outside of the human body? (I have already done multiple searches and have only found the time for HIV and Hepatitis).
4.Anybody has an explanation for these strange symptoms?

Thanks in advance

You said you "got rid of" the creature you found in your pubic hair -- but did you just pick it off? My guess is you've got crabs. They cause intense itching, and they are very hard to see. Where there's one there are probably 30 more. You should get an anti-lice treatment from the drugstore and follow the directions, and wash all your clothing, bedding, etc. If you've been intimate with your girlfriend, she should be treated too.

One other note: You should not self-treat with antibiotics. When you take antibiotics that are just lying around the house, you're essentially misusing them. You may not be getting a full course, and that means the organisms in your body may develop resistance. Resistant bacteria are becoming a serious problem. They also may not be targeted at the type of infection you're trying to treat. When you get antibiotics from the doctor, always take the full course so there are none left over, and go back to your doctor for more if you develop another infection.

I'm 99% sure it's not crabs. The "insect" that I found was easily visible by someone; about the size of an ant. I did not find another one and I have not experiences any kind of intense itching anywhere else.

I'm really just preocuppied by the HIV risk, if there is one. When I did it I was happy that I experimented and did it with what I considered "no potential risks". Now I'm living through a personal hell.

And about the antibiotics, don't worry. I looked into several web sites (incluiding the CDC) and checked their recommended treatments for chlamydia and ghonorrhea. Chlamydia is treatead either with azythromycin 1g (single dose) or Doxyciclyne 100mg two times daily for a week (except LGV, a more serious type of chlamydia, wich is treatred for 21 days). Ghonorrhea is treated with Cipro 500mg, single dose. And I'm doing the treatments as recommended. Still, thanks for the time and for worrying about it. :)

Well, from what you've described, you're right -- your HIV risk is virtually nil. I'm still voting for crabs. Finding a creature in your pubic hair -- even one as big as an ant -- is a big red flag for crabs.
