Worth taking a test?
      #157643 - 07/22/05 05:21 PM

Over the past year since my last test I have had the following encounters.

- Oral sex with a guy - No cum in mouth. No condom used.
- Anal sex with a guy - I was the reciever. Protection and lubrication were used but the encounter did seem 'tight' During this encounter I was performed oral sex and the other guy performed oral sex as well as some fingering
- 3some with two other guys. Some oral sex and short time fingering but other than me nobody else came. No condoms used
- Anal sex again. With the same person as before. Once again I was the receptive partner, once again a condom and lubrication was used. Oral sex both given and recieved as well as being rimmed myself. Some light fingering also.

Have I had a high risk encounter and should i seek to get myself checked out?

Intact condoms provide excellent protection for HIV, fingering is no risk, insertive oral is no risk and receptive oral (dick in your mouth) with no cum is theoretical risk.

Sounds to me like you've been pretty safe and have nothing to worry about.

That being said, if you're having that much sex (I wish I was) you should get tested once a year.

If it's been a year since your last test, go out and colllect your negative reult, and keep using those condoms.

Keep being safe.

Hey! Thanks for such a speedy reply. Much appreciated.

The only reason I ask if I faced any risk is because of late I have been feeling rather ill, achy all over, stomach ache/cramps and some long lasting headaches. Was wondering if these sort of symptoms, around 5 months after a possible exposure would be linked with HIV?

Damn, should have registered so I could edit my last reply.

Please be aware that I am a gay man and also some other symptoms I have had are some less that solid stools and a little bit of a sore throat.

As Jake said, it sounds like you've been pretty careful in terms of HIV infection. But some of your contacts do put you at risk for other STDs, and periodic HIV tests are always wise for sexually active people -- just so your mind is at ease. (If you're feeling ill only five months later, I don't think an STD is the issue -- you're probably just sick.)
