I was wondering if some of the experts could give me some info. Is oral thrush painful? I came down with a bad throat infection a couple of days ago. Having a hard time swallowing and both my nodes are swollen and painful in my neck. Upon further inspection of my mouth I've noticed white lines on my cheeks(bite lines?) and some white patches at the back of my mouth. Could this be cause by oral thrush or just a throat infection. Had my tonsils removed when I was younger so it can't be tonsilitis. Thanks!

well, to me it really sounds like a throat infection. What I remember from thrush, was EXTREME on your tounge and could spread to your throat. your tounge would be a FILM of white all on your tonge, not just in the back. (which pretty much confirms that this is probably strep throat or someting of that nature. And even if it were confirmed when you see doc (for your throat), if he did say you had thrush, it can be caused from any medication that you are on. But I'm really not thinking its going to go this way. also keep in mind. I don't know what your sexual contact was, but there are ALOT of STD's that you could have in your throat from oral sex.
But no, I wouldn't assume this was thrush. I would assume you have some other infection in your throat. please get it checked out.
much prayers to you, debbie

Thanks for the response debtex. I have a bit of a white coating on my tongue but nothing too crazy. The thing that scared me where the swollen nodes. I'm sure it's just a throat infection. It's getting better since I started gargling with salt water. Either way I'll have my doc check it out. Thanks!

oral thrush CAN be painful. especially when you eat certain foods. it can be so painful in fact, that you may not want to eat even if you are very hungry just to avoid the pain. you want to reduce your stress to a point where you have no stress. you want to reduce your sugar intake especially corn syrup stuff like candy and soda. If you can eliminate stress in your life and severely curtail sugar intake, you won't have thrush. i speak from experience. Candidsis (the yeast that causes thrush) feeds on sugar. With a high stress life & a high sugar intake, all the anti-fungals in the world won't keep it in check. +anti-fungals are very hard on the liver & use the P450 pathway in your liver that tobacco & testosterone & many anti-retroviral medications use. Be kind to your liver. Your life depends on it. Be very careful if you notice thrush at the back of your throat. If it goes down your estophagus, it's gonna be a real bitch for you. Because it can continue all the way down your alementary canal out thru your anus and believe me THAT SUCKS BIG TIME. Again, i am speaking through experience. As long as the thrush stays in your mouth, like under your toungue and on your inner cheeks, it's being controlled. when you brush your teeth, brush that too. There is a medicine called NYSTATIN that is the best. Ask your doctor for some. It supposedly is banana-cherry flavored. I think it's icky, but it works. follow directions. There is also a lozenger called MEYSELEX TROCHE that works OK too. But, your best bet so you can be kind to your liver and avoid the thrush in the first place, truly, is eliminate stress and avoid consuming sugar.

Well I went to my doc and he looked at my thraot and noticed nothing wrong. My node on the right side is causing the pain along with a lump/node that I just noticed under my ear. What could be causing this if a throat infection is out of the picture?
