Thrush and HIV
      #15100 - 01/25/01 01:15 PM

My girlfriend has thrush and I'm concerned if she could have HIV. We've always practiced safe sex, but I'm still concerned. She has had a cough and has been taking antibiotics. The doc said that the medicine kills a lot of bacteria in the body and could cause thrush. Could anyone shed some light on this issue?

Thrush can be brought on by antibiotics. The normal bacteria in you mouth keeps this in check, but when you go on antibiotics, is will kill bacteria which then can lead to thrush.

I personally came down with a mild case of Thrush after going on an antibiotics last year. My Dr. said that it is a common side effect of strong antibiotics. I had convinced myself that I had HIV. Have tested negative at 2, 3 and 6 months.
