No a regular blood test will NOT tell you if you are infected with HIV. You must take a test that is designed to detected HIV.

CBC test does look for infections but not HIV

Totally agree with what has been said. Many HIV+ have perfectly normal CBCs. The problem is with an essential subgroup of lymphocytes, CD4s, which do not show up on a CBC. And - conversely - it is important to notice that most people with abnormal CBCs do not have HIV!
