I was hoping someone could answer my question. I recently found out that my first girlfreind who told me she was a virgin actually cheated on me early in our relationship by having unprotected sex with another guy. We began dating 5 1/2 years ago and broke up 2 1/2 years ago. We always had unprotected sex because she was on the pill and I was a virgin and I thought she was. When I found out she cheated I freaked out becuase I am currently engaged. I tested negative 3 times by home access and one negative EIA HIV 1 from my county health department. My ex girlfreind has moved away so I cannot contact her. If I was infected 5 1/2 years ago, have I waited to long to test for antibodies. I have heard that some people with AIDS may not be able to produce antibodies anymore. I have some symptoms, I am more tired then usually, have lost my appitite for a couple of weeks which has since come back, have some floaters and my eyes and have had 2 warts removed from my groin. My Doc. did a CBC and other blood work and it was all normal. I told him about my symptoms and my HIV tests and he told me I should put it behind me. He was quick to write my symptoms off as no worries or are attributed to stress. I am currently in counseling. I was wondering if anyone knows if I waited too long to test for antibodies? I am thinking about paying for a PCR test too make sure but I know they are very expensive. Any help would be greatly apprecieated.

Stop stressing. Most people don't start to have symptoms until 10 years after exposure. Believe the test and your doctor, you are negative.
