Where does one go for a DNA PCR test and will they usually not be given to you?

You'r Dr. could do it for you. No, they won't willingly give it to you unless you had a definate exposure or they strongly suspect hiv.

If you are insisting on a DNA PCR test specialized testing does them but the cost about $400. If you feel you must take it it has to be at least 1 month after. They are supposed to be conclusive after that. If after you spend the money you feel that you can't believe the result, it would be best to wait the 12 weeks. If you need some peace of mind now, take an anitbody at 6 weeks and then finish it up at 12 weeks. The GMHC says that testing antibody at 6 weeks will detect about 90 - 95%. You could take 2 antibody test alot cheaper than 1 PCR. good luck.
