Never ending drama
      #134770 - 02/21/05 08:37 PM

I need help and hope someone here is able to help me. I have tested for HIV out to 6 months and tested negative. Now I have enlarged lymph nodes in the back of my neck which are big and firm. Of course the doctor asked me if I would consent to and HIV test to rule it out as a cause of the chronic infections I have had. He knows I have tested out to 6 months but it doesn't seem to matter. I didn't have any symptoms until my exposure to a man I thought infected me. I don't want to keep going thru all of this. Anyone have any advice for me?

I am not a doctor but have a fairly good knowledge of hiv. A 6 month post exposure test is conclusive. There have been a few cases that have taken longer but they had compromised immune systems(cancer, etc.) So unless you fit this category, you don't have hiv. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, go see another one or a specialist. That might not be a bad idea if your doctor doesn't believe the 6 month results.

you can safely rule out HIV. Enlarged lymph nodes may be caused by millions of infections. A person with a normal immune system will develop antibodies by 2 weeks. Majority will have enough of them to test postive by 4 weeks.
