Lying about being HIV pos
      #133726 - 01/28/05 02:27 PM

I would like some discussion on lying about being HIV pos. I really think this is an ethical delimma. I guess I am going to ask the forbiden question. Has anyone, knowing full well they are HIV pos, engaged in unprotective sex? Or, when asked during sex, lied about it....even using a condom?

I had the unfortunate experience to find out that I had sex with an HIV pos person, who know they were pos.....and, before we had sex, he told me he tested all the time, but knew he was positive.......came inside me. He told me later.

So, I am assuming that I have AIDS...until I can test. I have read garbage about..... well you have a 1 in 300 chance. But the research and discussions with infected people indicate a figure more like 1 in 3 chance.

I guess if I met someone and really wanted them, I guess lying is an option.....but it seems horrible to do so. Is it a common practice for people to lie about having AIDS? Has anyone done this??
thanks

WHAT?!!!!!

Having been a victim of this yourself, do you really want to further the violence- yup, I said violence- and make someone else you care about YOUR victim??

I think you should know that sort of thing is actually punishable by a prison term in the US.

First of all, the odds really are in your favor. I know that probably sounds like BS right now, but depending on the encounter (you didn't say what it was) you have about a ).1-3% chance per encounter of getting it. You need to test, and in my opinion, you should also make some noise about the person who did this to you. If this happened in the past 72 hours, get to the ER and ask about PEP.

P.S. I guess it depends on your temperament, but I recommend testing as a "step-down" procedure: test at 4-6 weeks, and then again at 12 weeks to close the issue. If you do go on PEP, the conclusive test can be done 12 weeks AFTER you finish PEP. I'll say a prayer for you, and please, be careful with your health AND the health of others.

Dr. P is right, and also you have not been doing as much research as say or you would know that the man did not have AIDS. Maybe if you would have known a thing or two about the disease you would have known that the phrase is "are you HIV Positive". Aids is a diagnosis well after having HIV when you have no T-cells and are no longer able to control the HIV virus with medications.
Please learn a little more about the disease even if you do test HIV-, It seems as though you need to by the way you worded your message.

I dated some one for a while who lied about his HIV status. The last time we were together <about 5 weeks> ago I was the Insertive (top) partner without a condom. Now he admits to being Poz. Now I am having "flu" like symptoms and of course i am scared as heck. Is getting a HIV test while going thru the "flu" some thing that report a false positive? What kind of risk factors for Insertive (top) ?

I truly understand where your anger is coming from but imagine how you are feeling right now, would really want to put another innocent person through this? Secondly, I hope the person who did this to you gets the punishment they deserve. I hope you test negative and good luck....
