Donor blood center test
      #133550 - 01/26/05 08:32 AM

Quick question if anyone knows out there. What type of test does the blood center use to test for hiv? How effective is it? It would seem nothing would get past them. Right? Where can you get the kind of test done that the blood center uses? Thanks in advance.

Shame, shame on you all for not answering this one already!

Blood banks use the ELISA/WB combo. I am not sure what generation they use though. Oral fluid tests are a teensy, teensy bit less accurate, and for this reason they are not approved yet. Anywhere you go to get an antibody test through a blood sample will do the same test as the blood banks. You don't need to specially seek it out.

I thought they used a DNA/RNA test as well?

Yes, they also employ NAT testing.
