Skin or Latex?
      #13188 - 12/04/00 10:40 AM

Provided that skin is unbroken and has no open cuts or sores....Is the protection greater/less or equal to that provided by latex?

Thanks

EQUAL new

All doctor I have read, including Dr. Gallants says that hiv virus cannot enter intact skin. Only through a cut, sore, abrasion or mucous membranes. Thats why sex is such an efficient way of transmision.

If skin and latex are basically equal then you use the condom to cover the urethra and head of the penis since they're classified as mucous membranes?

Is the urethra and head of the penis considered to be the primary mode of transmission sites on males (except for the rectum of course)?

The skin that covers the penis is still skin but not as strong as the skin you have in your hands for instance, it is thiner. But, no, one have to use condoms because even tough the skin on the penis is somewhat strong, because of the friction that involves sex, an abrasion or cut can be made and so lead a way to hiv penetrate through your body. Still, experts says that it is 8 times easier for a man to transmit to a woman than a woman to a man, the easiest one is through anal sex because the anus naturally are not a natural way to have sex so the mucuous membrane of the anus is not very strong at all.
